feeling sick at uni

I've been here for basically a week now and almost everyday I have felt nausea at the thought of eating full meals, and even just at the thought of eating in general. I was homesick and upset the first few nights but that has more or less gone away now yet the sick feeling remains and idk if this is a common experience but I just feel constantly ill

Glad the homesickness has faded a bit. Could it be Freshers' Flu? or covid?

Hi! I am so sorry to hear your feeling this way, especially in your first week. My advice would be to see a doctor so they can assess weather you have an illness or if your feeling this way due to being away from home and its causing stress related effects such as nausea. I hope you feel better soon!

I'm sorry that you are feeling like this. If this isn't something you experienced before and it's not getting any better, seeing a doctor may be something to look at. Just to know what it is. It could be an illness with being around new people but could also be stress. I often don't have an appetite if I am stressed or overwhelmed. Starting university is a big change and can bring stress on.

I am sorry to hear about that. It may be freshers flu as it is quite common to get in the first week! Hopefully you feel better soon though. Remember to take breaks and rest as well as having medicine on hand as well 😊

Sorry to hear that you are feeling like this during your start to uni. Feeling homesick or stressed will definitely be factors that contribute to you feeling this way and that is very common with new students starting uni. However, if the feeling of being homesick has gone away and you are still feeling the same way then as mentioned, I would suggest seeing a doctor to determine what it could be.

I know when I feel stressed or anxious about something then I struggle to stomach full meals, is there anything that you think you might be stressing about subconsciously? Lots of freshers become ill during the first couple weeks of uni aswell as lots of people are coming from all over the country to one place so many germs are spread so it could just be an illness that you have caught from somewhere.

I hope you manage to get to the bottom of why you are feeling like this, try and get some rest and eat healthy if you can and hopefully you will be back to feeling your best before you know it!

A very similar thing happened to my friend at uni in our first few weeks actually - she wasn't consciously feeling stressed but had several symptoms of it such as having little appetite and feeling nauseous. Perhaps its your body's way of reacting to the huge change in your life of starting uni?

Try to do things to keep yourself upbeat and calm, and perhaps if you feel the need, go and see the wellbeing team at your uni. If it gets bad though and it's affecting your ability to do things in the day then as has been said, it would be a good idea to see a doctor.

Hey!

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well; starting university can be a stressful experience for anyone, and unfortunately it's not uncommon for that stress to present itself physically.

As mentioned above, Freshers' Flu is quite common in the first few weeks of uni. Try to drink lots of water and focus on eating basic foods (e.g. toast, rice, soup) whenever you have an appetite rather than eating full meals. Make sure to get lots of sleep as well.

If you can't feel yourself improving over the next few days, reach out to your university's wellbeing team. If you've already signed up with a local GP, try to book an appointment with them - if not, your university may have a local GP they can recommend you to.
