✍️ Journal – writing things down can help clear your head and keep track of how you’re feeling.
•
🏡 Make your space your own – photos, fairy lights, plants, posters… anything that makes your room feel cosy and like your safe place.
•
🍲 Eat proper food – takeaways are tempting, but they get expensive (and tiring). Cooking something that reminds you of home can be a real comfort. My top tip is too cook a big portion and freeze it, so you have something to heat up after a busy day.
•
👋 Put yourself out there – chat to flatmates, go to society events, say yes to trying new things (but don’t pressure yourself to do everything at once).
•
📱 Stay connected – video calls with friends and family back home can make the distance feel smaller.
•
🚶 Get moving – whether it’s the gym, joining a sports club, or just going for walks, exercise is great for both your body and mind. When I need to clear my head, I like going for a walk; it’s also one of the best ways to get to know your new city.
•
⏰ Keep a routine – late nights are part of the fun, but having a bit of structure (regular meals, sleep, downtime) helps keep you balanced.
•
💸 Look after your money – budgeting early on saves a lot of stress later (and means you can enjoy freshers without the panic of running out of cash).
•
🧘 Take breaks – it’s okay to have a night in, watch Netflix, or just chill. You don’t have to be “on” all the time, socialising 24/7 can be exhausting!
