Previous years of study

Hi,

I am due to start university next year but have been advised to potentially withdraw due to ill-health although my doctor said I may be on the mend by mid-late October.

I wanted to know that if I were to withdraw from University before November 2nd (when my university states that their tuition fees due are 0%) would I still receive full entitlement for any future study?

I have one previous year of study already so I do not have a gift year. I understand in future I could apply for compelling reasons, but due to my health issue not being formally diagnosed and NHS wait lists being as long as they are, I wouldn't be able to bank on this being possible for next year.

Hi there,

Have you received any maintenance loan payments? When you say the course starts next year do you mean the 2026/27 academic year or do you mean the current academic year?

Thanks, Drew

Hi,

I have not received any maintenance as I have not confirmed enrolment yet.

I mean next year for 2026/27 if I were to withdraw this year (2025/26).

Thanks, yes - so long as no money is paid from us to the university or yourself then we won't count this as a year of study.

Ideally, the university should send us a Change of Circumstances (COC) confirming that you never attended: that way we know for sure not to count this year.

Thanks, Graeme
