No, I would like to, but it's one of many long series from that era that I haven't found time for yet.

94 or 96 episodes in total. I never watch the anime to the very end, also because the episodes have no continuity in the plot.
Fumetsu no Anata e S3 (To Your Eternity S3) [content warning: emotional abuse, violence]

After centuries spent spreading roots all over the world and eliminating all traces of the Nokkers, Fushi finally awakens... to a modern world similar to our own! He hopes this will prove to be the peaceful era he dreamed of, for his companions to finally find happiness - but will he be able to find his own place there? Here's the continuation I've been looking forward to the most this season, the sudden jump from classical / medieval era fantasy siege combat to 21st century high school club activities is the kind of unique, wild move that's only possible when you have an immortal and ageless main character. Liking the new cast introduced so far as well.

Gnosia

A spaceship carrying refugees has been infiltrated by a 'Gnosia' - someone infected by a virus, who may look and act the same as they did before, but who now seeks to destroy humanity. Each day, the remaining travellers must discuss among themselves and hold a vote to decide who they think is the Gnosia. Whoever gets the most votes is put into cold sleep, a dangerous process with no guarantee of revival. After that, their ship warps closer to their destination planet; uninfected humans cannot move while the ship is warping, but the Gnosia can, so if any remain at large, they will use that time to murder an innocent crewmate! Who is the Gnosia? Who can be trusted?

The Traitors, The Anime, IN SPACE! I love a good social deduction game, and am very excited to see how this idea will translate into scripted fiction. The first episode served well to introduce the basic concept and a few of the characters, but there wasn't much time to get to know any of them before the voting and murdering began - hopefully it'll slow down a bit now, if not then the twist at the end should still ensure we get to know everyone eventually! Cool to see many of the characters using they/them pronouns (my kind of future), really liked their designs too. And the visuals were very impressive, great cinematography. Absolutely recommended!

Wandance [content warning: bullying]

Kaboku is a new high school first year, who has a stutter. When people notice, it usually leads to him getting teased or asked blunt, invasive questions. For this reason, he tries not to stand out, going with the flow and doing whatever his friends do. Deep down he is drawn to dance as a way of communicating without words... but the one time he ever danced in front of others in middle school, his awkward moves stood out and he was teased for that too. But when he sees his new classmate Wanda dancing to herself, he is immediately smitten - both with her, and with the freedom that dance can provide. Working up his courage, he approaches her, and for the first time finds acceptance rather than mockery.

Another character I could relate to... that feeling of being teased for being different, and how it can have wider impacts on self-esteem. This first ep didn't glamourise the school experience the way that many other anime do! Should be great to watch Kaboku come out of his shell, and hopefully find a hobby he can truly enjoy alongside Wanda - the interactions between those two so far have been so sweet. But as amazing as this episode was on the whole, it does have one huge negative: the 3D animation used in the dance scenes looked AWFUL. And I say that as someone who often finds clunky CG charming, this was just soulless! Bit of an issue for a dance anime, but I'll stick with it for the characters.

I have watched the trailers, but they don't give me the vibes. I prefer the original anime.

Yeah, there's definitely something about the animation styles and music of older anime that keeps me going back to watch them. I do like these remakes for introducing new audiences to beloved old franchises, but if anything they just make me want to check out the original versions even more.

Someone like me who was grown up with the originals has a sceptical attitude to remakes in general. Possibly because I am a nostalgist who struggles to open my mind for something new for old stuff.
I have officially dropped Towa no Yuugure after a weak 2nd episode. I haven't a clue where it was going plot-wise, but it didn't engage me.

Most of the autumn season anime have started airing at this point - is anyone else watching any of them? If so, please do share your thoughts here!
One Punch Man 3

I usually spend the first part of these first ep impression posts summarising what happened plot-wise... but it's been about 6 years since S2, and we were dropped right back into the middle of story arc with little to no recap, so I'm afraid I've forgotten most of it! :colondollar: What I do know is, One Punch Man is supposed to be an action comedy. There was no action in this episode, and I didn't laugh. Just talking heads, static pans, very little movement. *Maybe* they're saving the budget for the fight scenes, only time will tell. But there was no hook here for me, nothing to remind me why I rated the first two series so highly, so I think I'll leave it there and take a chance on something new instead.

I know I asked in the previous post, but now that I've dropped OPM and have an unexpected free spot in my watching list, I'm even more curious to hear what other people are watching and enjoying. Please do send some recommendations my way!

Noooooo. I was going to ask you for recommendations.

I've never watched anime before, but I'd like to give it a try. I just don’t know where to start...

Kimi to Koete Koi ni Naru (With You, Our Love Will Make it Through) [content warning: bullying]

Beastfolk are people with animal characteristics, the result of human experiments in the past. Though all beastfolk live in a walled off and heavily monitored location in Saitama, some are given permission to leave and study among humans. One day, Mari is running late, and arrives at school to find the gate closed. Waiting there is another student wearing her school's uniform - a tall, dog-like beastfolk boy! Not only has he transferred to her school, but he ends up sat next to her in class. Mari is curious, and wants to get to know him better... but unfortunately, a lot of prejudice still exists towards beastfolk in human society, and not everyone is as welcoming of their new classmate.

I've empathised with a lot of characters this season, but the way Tsunagu and the beastfolk were treated shared a lot of similarities with the current trans experience, from the invasive questions and difficulty accessing medical treatment right down to the arguments about whether they should be banned from sports. This might have been an uncomfortable watch, had it not also been so cute! Mari and Tsunagu's interactions were adorable... right up until that cliffhanger ending at least, that escalated rather quickly! Gorgeous art, animation and character designs (human and beastfolk), I really liked the chibi moments too. Worth the wait for this late airing addition to my list~

Comedy, crime, romance, tragedy... I'm open to anything except horror! :yep:

Here's a few recommendations for anime series that already have quite a few series / episodes out:

Spy x Family: A spy, an assassin and a telepathic child end up forming a family for their own goals. A very fun action / comedy, the first two series are available on Netflix (link); there is a third series currently airing, with new episodes being released every week on Crunchyroll (link), which is the main anime-specific streaming platform, but it'll likely come to Netflix eventually.

Violet Evergarden: A young soldier, scarred physically and mentally by war, tries to find a new purpose and rediscover her emotions during peacetime. Available on Netflix (link), start with the series not the movie.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind: My pick for a feature length movie, if you'd prefer that to a series. Available on Netflix (link). Action / fantasy with environmental themes.

Medalist: If you don't have Netflix but do have Disney+ (link), here's an emotional series about a girl who dreams of becoming a figure skater, against her mother's wishes.

CITY the Animation: Or if Prime Video works better for you (link)! One of my favourite slapstick comedy series of recent years, with some of the best and most creatively used animation ever.

Lastly, if you'd prefer to go with something all-new and currently airing (all the series I've been covering in this thread fall into that category), my recommendation would be Sanda for its madcap plot. My first episode impressions post is here (link). New episodes on Prime vide weekly (link).

I hope something there is of interest to you! If not, let me know and I'll try again. :colondollar:
Chanto Suenai Kyuuketsuki-chan (Li’l Miss Vampire Can’t Suck Right)

In a world where fantasy creatures and monsters live peacefully alongside humans, Ishikawa Luna is a vampire transfer student, whose cool and mysterious attitude captures the hearts of all her new classmates. But she harbours an embarrassing secret for her kind... Classmate Ootori Tatsuta notices that she always appears hungry, so she confides in him: she doesn't know how to suck blood! Knowing how hard to bite or how to find a vein just don't come naturally to her at all. And so, Tatsuta offers up his arm and invites her to practice on him - and finds out the hard way just how bad she is at feeding. Will Luna be able to overcome her issue with Tatsuta's help?

On paper, this reads remarkably similarly to 'With You, Our Love Will Make it Through' that I covered earlier this afternoon, but it couldn't feel much different in terms of tone and presentation! Everyone in Lil' Miss Vampire is really accepting, and the focus was far more on comedy (people's expectation of vampires versus Luna's reality) than on steamy romance or drama. I doubt this will be in contention for best anime of the season, but it was very easy to watch, and it made me laugh - just the kind of cozy series I like to watch after a stressful day at work, when I'm too tired to focus on anything with a plotline.

Well, I didn't get any recommendations, so instead I'll blitz through as many of the remaining first episodes as I have time for, until I find something I like! Starting with a real wildcard:

Assassin de Aru Ore no Status ga Yuusha Yori mo Akiraka ni Tsuyoi Nodaga (My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's)

Oda Akira has very little presence, blending into the background and widely unnoticed by his classmates. One day, he and the rest of his class suddenly find themselves summoned to a fantasy world, and given a quest by the king to save the land from demons! Everyone is assigned a role, along with skills and stats - it is the perfect isekai adventure of their dreams, and everyone gets caught up in the excitement... except for Akira, who is suspicious about the king's true motives. Using his abnormally high 'conceal presence' skill, he sneaks around searching for information; sure enough, there is more behind this summoning than they're being told.

I'm famously not a fan of isekai, or RPG-like features in fantasy series, so this one was always going to be a tough sell! But I saw it getting high ratings, so I thought I'd see what the fuss was about, and give it a chance to win me over. Meh, it was okay. The pacing felt way too fast, though it did a reasonable job of building up a sense of mystery. In my pre-air thoughts posts, I made fun of the stiff animation in the trailer; this episode's opening rooftop battle scene looked fantastic, but the quality didn't hold up for long. Still, I have to compliment the use of light and shading, it gave the visuals a nostalgic 80s-90s look at times. Not for me, but I've seen far worse.

Second time lucky!

Kikaiji Kake no Marie (Mechanical Marie) [content warning: violence]

Arthur is the wealthy heir to a large company, but he is constantly under threat from assassins hired by jealous relatives seeking his inheritance for themselves. As a result, he has developed a strong hatred of humans. But even this misanthrope can't live alone, so he commissions a hyper realistic robot maid. What he doesn't know is that his new maid is in fact human herself! Marie is a martial artist, known for her stony, emotionless demeanour. She takes on the job pretending to be a robot in exchange for her family's debts being cleared - but how long will she be able to keep up the act? And how will Arthur, who hates liars more than anything else, react if/when he learns the truth?

This was an enjoyable action comedy. Marie's inner monologues were amusing, and her superhuman feats (outrunning cars etc) were fun to watch, she's certainly a good fit for the job description. Arthur was less likable, though that's clearly a result of the constant assassination attempts; when he's around Marie, we get to see his softer side. Still, he must be a bit daft not to have caught on to her secret at the end there! The animation was decent enough, though the detailed still shots have come under some suspicion of being at least partially AI generated... I can't tell either way, but out of all the shows where AI could be passed off as human art, this would surely be the most ironic if true!

Kikaiji Kake no Marie takes the last spot on my list, and with that, I've got more than enough anime to follow for one season. I'll *probably* leave the first episode reviews there. But as always, I'm happy to hear what other people are watching / planning to watch, so please join in the discussion!
