Option Swap

Hi guys I take maths,FM, physics and Comp Sci. I want to do finance at uni and ive been offered a place in econ. However I got a 9 in maths but a 6 in a essay based subject. I got a 9 in physics and ive never done comp sci at GCSE. Im worried that since essay based subjects are not my strong point I might struggle. should i swap comp sci for econ?

A degree in Finance does not require 'an essay based subject', and A level Economics will not give you any advantage either (its not even a requirement for an Economics degree). The only required subject will be Maths. So, pick a 3rd subject you will enjoy studying, and where you feel confident of a good grade.

Fm isnt a 3rd subject so I will have to do 4 a levels regardless. Does doing econ A level not give you an advantage over other applicants?

Check the stated 'entry requirements' for each course/Uni. If it does not say its 'preferred' then it isnt, and taking it wont give you any advantage. Marketing legislation means that all Unis have to be totally upfront and honest about entry requirements - there is no secret info that only special people know.

Alongside Mathematics, we’re looking for subject combinations that show you have good analytical and writing abilities. Typical subject choices include Economics, Physics, History, Chemistry, and Government and Politics.

this is LSE's requirement and it does say writing abilities as well so I was a bit worried about that

I suggest that you post a specific post about this on the LSE forum - ie. do you really need an essay-based subject for Finance at LSE, or just subjects from their list of so-called 'traditional subjects'? (1) London School of Economics and Political Science Forum - The Student Room

Double check unis websites.
If they dont specify either- then pick the one that you will enjoy the most and get the best grade in.
