Speed Awareness Course

Just curious as I have near 0 exp with this stuff, my partner got a NIP today for speeding which she admits but she's not long passed and obv pretty worried.

In terms of being offered a speed awareness course is there any circumstances that make it more likely or unlikely? She was in a 30 and I think the limit to be offered the course is 42mph, and she was pinged at 41.. so I don't know if being within that band/1st offence makes a course more likely, or less because of how close to the line it is?

When she spoke to the police on the phone she had made them aware of being a new driver, and he said something about her getting a 'conditional' 3 points? I've never heard of this and thought it was a 6 for new drivers, is this a new thing? or is it basically the same thing, like if she gets 6 'conditional' points as a new driver she loses the licence?

Lastly, I'm assuming if they're going to offer the course they don't offer this in the initial NIP, they'll wait till they confirm the driver & licence before offering any options? anyone know how long after she's confirmed she was the driver she should expect a reply?

You are right in that new drivers can only get up to 6 points in their first 2 years. Getting caught speeding (assuming you arent offered s speed awareness course is usually 3 points (+ the fine). So if your partner doesnt get offered the course, and gets given the points instead, then she will keep her licence (assuming she doesnt already have 3 points for anything else).
There are conditions for offering/not offering the course. I am not clued up on what the conditions are. And it may vary from county to county. But if you have read that it is 42, and your partner was doing 41, then she should be offered it.
Just be aware, that if you do a speed awareness course, then get caught speeding again within 3 years, you dont get offered another course. You automatically get the points next time.

I had not heard of conditional points before. This was the first thing that came up so I assume it's a similar arrangement where there is some sort of choice as to what penalty or action you want to take:

I did the driving awareness course for a red light infraction in my first year and it was not all that bad. Just a couple of world weary fellas talking to us for the morning.
