Architecture degree without a creative subject

I'm currently in year 13 studying chemistry, biology and history however I have always loved creative subjects but I did not take any for gcse (parents belive it's a waste of time).

I want to apply to architecture at universities (I've been looking at sheffield, etc) and I have had to discount the unis that specify art alevel. From what I have seen most reccomend it or a mix of creative subjects (which i don't have).

I wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experiance and has gotten into a architecture degree. And what i should do to make up for no creative (or maths/physics) alevels.

Hiya @Bear2611 ,

If you are interested in a particular uni or course, I would suggest visiting one of their Open Days to speak to current students and academic tutors. They may be able to give you some advice on what to include in your portfolio or what their assessment criteria is. For example, If you have further questions about the BA Architecture course at Sheffields or entry requirements you can also contact them HERE.
Most art and design based courses would require you to submit a digital portfolio and may have difference format requirements. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck in your application process 🤗.

Do you do a lot of creative activities in your spare time - drawing, painting, photography, etc.? If you don't, then you will likely struggle to produce a convincing portfolio (required as part of the application process by the majority of unis) and it is likely that you will struggle with the degree course too. Architecture is a design-based degree and 50% or more of the course modules are design. If you believe you have the creative talent, but need to develop your skills, then consider doing an Art & Design Foundation Diploma at a local college the year after A levels and then apply to uni. Alternatively, a degree in architectural technology might be an option for you.
