Anyone else losing out on Freshers due to COVID?

For the last 3 days, whilst my flatmates have been out going to freshers events and hanging out together, I've been cooped up in my accom room with COVID.
I just feel so sorry for myself as I'm seeing so many posts and images of everybody getting out there and making friends - all the meanwhile the furthest I've gone from my bed in the last few days is the shared bathroom for a shower. This has really tainted my view of uni as I've just spent days without human contact and all I want right now is to be home, in a familiar bed, and with someone making sure I'm alright.

Aww no. I'm so sorry that you're feeling like this.
Is there anyone who can stay with you or is it possible for you to go home for a bit?
Until then if you want, we can keep talking on the chat.

Hope that helped you!
Get well soon and hopefully you can start going out soon 😊

Hi,

I’m really sorry you’re feeling this way. It must be tough being stuck in your room while everyone else is out, but please don’t feel like you’re missing your only chance to make friends. Freshers is only the start, and there will be so many more events, socials and opportunities to get involved throughout the year. Joining societies is also a great way to meet people, and your flatmates will still be around once you’re feeling better.

Right now the most important thing is your health, so focus on resting and looking after yourself. As mentioned above, if you’re able to go home for a bit or have someone visit, that could help you feel more supported. You’re definitely not alone in this, and once you’re well again you’ll have plenty of time to settle in and enjoy university life.

Get well soon

Hi there,

Your situation is really unfortunate and I'm sorry to hear you've ended up in this position. However, I really don't think you need to worry.

When I started uni we had an international flatmate whose flight from her country was delayed for several days, meaning she missed more than half of Freshers. However, as soon as she arrived we all welcomed her into the flat, added her to the group chats etc and she ended up settling in really well and having a great time at uni after Freshers' week.

There is a lot of pressure on new students to 'live their best life,' make lots of friends and have tons of fun in Freshers' Week, but its really not the be-all and end-all. There will be loads of opportunities to get to know people, experience the fun side of uni and find your feet throughout your time at uni, so if you miss most of Freshers, although it feels dreadful at the moment, it really won't be a problem for your uni experience in the long run 🙂

Hope this helps, best of luck 🙂
