Hello!

I am an ex Sociology student so I thought I might be able to help...

The best thing I did to remember who said what was to make a mind map for each topic. I would start of with Families and Households in the middle for example then I would have bubbles coming off of it such as Functionalist, Marxist and so on, then each of those I would right the Sociologist and their main thought such as Parsons- Functional Fit- 'primary socialisation' and 'stabilisation of adult personalities'. It wasn't overloaded with detail but it helped trigger memories.

Another thing I did similar to this was dedicate 1 post it note to a sociologist and their thought and write a very brief summary (as if you were planning a PEELE paragraph if that is something you have been told to do) and then dot them in random places around your house, that you often use such as the bathroom, hall way, kitchen, TV etc. I would steer clear of putting any in your bedroom so you have somewhere to just be.

I also would ask for a scrap piece of paper at the start of the exam and spend five minutes writing down everything I could remember names, theories everything just so it was there to refer back to.

The best advice i was given was, don't panic if you cant remember who said what, as long as you can name the perspective the theory comes from its ok. If you remember some names not others just use them when you can.

I really hope this helps even a little bit!

Best of luck-
Daisy, Graduate Advocate (Sociology)
