Aerospace / Mechanical Engineering.

Hey, here’s my situation and I’d really appreciate your help.

In Year 12 I slacked off and didn’t do much work, which obviously had consequences. I didn’t do well in my mocks and ended up with CCD in Business, Physics, and Maths (in that order).

However, over the summer I worked hard and in my Year 13 resits I got two Bs (Maths and Physics) and an A in Business. I’m now predicted the same grades. I still have a few more tests before the UCAS deadline on January 14th.

With these grades I know I can’t realistically get into universities like Bristol, Bath, or Southampton. But if I keep working hard until January, I think there’s a slim (but possible) chance I could push my grades up to AAA.

The problem is I’m not sure how best to get there. I’ve also applied to some degree apprenticeships, but I was rejected from one because I didn’t meet the grade requirements, even though I have extensive experience in the field and work experience with big companies.

Any tips or advice would mean a lot. Thanks for your time!

Two choices - don't apply to Uni this year, work your socks off (really work), get AAA and apply next year - with no guarantee that you will get an offer from those Unis. OR - there are plenty of good Unis you can still apply to this year - Birmingham, Liverpool, Leicester, Loughborough Newcastle etc. If possible pick a degree program with a placement year or 'industrial experience' - this will add heaps to your graduate CV. And btw, S'ton Bath, Bristol etc will all still be there for postgrad.
