UCL or Bath Pharmach

No worries. There is no option to customise the degree at Bath - all the modules are compulsory. This is likely the same at all universities offering pharmacy as there's a strict syllabus we have to follow so we all graduate with the same knowledge. This syllabus keeps being updated to be more clinically-focussed so really it prepares you better for a clinical career rather than an industrial one. As mentioned above, pharmacology might be a better fit for you if you are pretty confident you want to go into that type of work. Maybe try to get some work experience in industry in summer to help figure out if it's where you want to end up.
In terms of working alongside the degree, pharmacy is a big time commitment so it might be challenging to take on something extra. I work like 10 hours a month doing student ambassador work (like replying to questions on here!) which I am able to fit into my schedule, but a job with more hours or a stricter schedule might be harder to accommodate. At Bath, it's pretty easy to get a job like mine or at some of the food outlets on campus and these jobs tend to be more flexible so are definitely a good option. It's probably easy to find work in the city too as it's such a big tourist hotspot.
I hope that was helpful

Hi, I hope you’re doing well. I’m considering putting Pharmacy at Bath as my 5th choice while applying for Medicine. I noticed on your website that I can submit a Pharmacy-focused personal statement, and I meet (and exceed) the minimum A level and GCSE requirements. Would I realistically have a chance of receiving an offer, or are applicants who apply solely to Pharmacy generally given preference over those applying to Medicine or Dentistry?

Also, how do i send this other personal statement for pharmacy to you after I have applied via UCAS

Thanks

Hiya, thanks for your questions. I’m happy to hear you’re interested in pharmacy at Bath!

Plenty of our applicants are in a similar position to you and apply to medicine or dentistry as well as pharmacy. While I can’t guarantee that you would be given an offer, as long as you meet (or in your case exceed) the entry requirements and can demonstrate genuine interest in pharmacy in your statement, you would definitely be considered for one. The admissions team are used to seeing applications from students with mixed choices so I don’t think it would significantly disadvantage you.

Regarding sending the personal statement, I’m not sure about the technicalities of this so it’s definitely worth contacting admissions to check. Their details are: [email protected] or +44 (0)1225 383019

I hope that was helpful, I’m happy to answer any other questions you have

No worries

No, unfortunately all of the modules are compulsory for pharmacy as there is a very strict syllabus set by the general pharmaceutical council. We already have a pretty intense timetable so I don't think it would be possible to add much more in. I imagine this is the same for other schools of pharmacy as they all have to follow the same syllabus. The main module you can customise more is the research project in 4th year, which can be done either at Bath or abroad and you will get some say in what your topic is.

Yes! We cover a lot of different subject areas in the degree and pharmaceutics is still a significant part of it, although the degrees are gradually transitioning into much more of a clinical focus. There is also a bit of medicinal chem in the early years.
