MSc Psychology (Conversion) Which one?

Any experience/advice as to which MSc Psy (Conversion) is the best?
In terms of cost and student help (interactions, especially if there're issues do they resolve them with care?)
BPS registration is essential.
Have looked at Liverpool (£11,700), Wolverhampton (£7.2k), Open (£8.6K), MMU (£1139x9), others?
How did you fund it? Thanks so much

@Tablestone
You are correct in highlighting the importance of the BPS accreditation, this is crucial.

You seem to be focused on the cost of the course, Arden University, where I studied and had a great time currently has a deal which is on their website,

"For our July 25 and October 25 intakes, we’re offering UK online learning students the opportunity to enrol on our MSc Psychology course for just £7,000, a tuition fee reduction of £1,500. This means you can use the remaining balance from your Postgraduate Student Loan (up to £12,858 for students in England) to help with living costs, making it easier for you to invest in your future." Online MSc Psychology (BPS) | Master in Psychology | Arden University

I did the 100% online option as I am a busy professional teaching all week, but I have seen some of the facilities in Manchester and they seemed really good - just off Oxford Road where all the cool stuff is

Hey @Tablestone

I'm not sure if you've considered BCU, but here's some key info on our MSc Psychology Conversion Course if you are interested:

The course is an online course

Fully accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS)

This course has been designed for students wanting to pursue careers in chartered areas of psychology who need to gain the psychological background in order to gain accreditation by the BPS

The course cost is £10,820 for UK students

If you're a current BCU student, we offer a Graduate Scholarship

We have an Open Day coming up on 15 November, where you can find out lots of info about the course and chat to students

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Marc, thanks for the info.

Would you be able to apply for Fee loan and living cost loan if you go with a Arden Blended learning BSc Psychology (full time) from student finance as an allowable second degree?

Hi @Tablestone

Great to hear you're considering our BPS accredited MSc Psychology Conversion course. Choosing the right course is an important decision.

Our programme is fully online and available as a 1year full-time or 2year part-time course. For the full-time route it's 40 hours of weekly commitment and the part-time 20 hours. Might be worth watching our Psychology Conversion webinar from earlier this year: webinar link.

Lectures are posted online and are much shorter than typical face-to face lectures on campus. Their aim is to introduce the topic and orient you for further study. Students can watch the lectures and engage with course materials in their own time at a convenient time. The lectures and activities are provided on an asynchronous basis. There are generally opportunities to interact with tutors on a synchronous basis in workshops, but these are usually recorded. Additionally, there may be set tests, but these will not run on a specific day, and are open online for a period of time; students can take the tests at their convenience during this time.

The tuition fees are £10,600 for the course and you can pay this in three equal instalments over the academic year, if easier. If you choose the part-time route, this amount will be spread over the two years, so you would pay £4,711 in Y1 (80 credits) and £5,889 in Y2 (100 credits). Many part-time students work alongside their studies. As others have said, it is possible to apply for the Masters Loan to cover the fees for this course, and I'd also advise contacting SFE's postgrad team on 0300 100 0031. You can find details including eligibility, repayments and how to apply here: GOV.UK Masters Loan. You may be eligible for up to £12,858 (as of 1st August 2025). You are also welcome to contact our Student Financial Support team who will be able to discuss all funding options with you: 0161 247 1045.

In terms of support, we ensure that you have plenty of help available throughout your studies. All students are allocated a personal tutor at the start of the course, who is available for any pastoral issues. We also have amazing programme support tutors who help with any course-related/assignment questions, and you will of course have your dissertation supervisor for your project. Module leaders have assessment support drop-ins and are available for meetings to discuss anything related to the content. And the course's programme leader holds regular drop-ins for general conversation and to discuss any issues. All engagement with academic staff is online.

We also organise online social events to help students feel part of the MMU community. Whilst this is an online masters, your MMU ID card will give you access to all campus-based facilities such as the library, students’ union, careers services and other student support services.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask on here or contact our Course Enquiries team on 0161 247 6969 or at [email protected]. You are also welcome to contact the course's Programme Lead directly.

Mel 😊

I'm currently on the conversion at Sussex - it is a really good course - it is well worth the money I am paying as I am getting personalised help from the course lead and excellent teaching from the lecturers. They are really bending over backwards to make sure everyone is working towards a career goal and making sure everyone's applications for the next stage of training are really strong
