will i be able to study law at cambridge uni? (read desc.)

at gcses i got 887655544. the only gcse subject i’m taking at a level is english language which i got an 8 (2 off a 9 on🥲). i’m taking economics english language and psychology. i’m aiming for straight As but i can’t know where i am rn as i haven’t taken any exams yet. will cambridge take me or are my gcses too weak? even if it’s not for my first choice of law.

Hi! I’m a Y13 Cambridge law applicant with similar GCSEs, however my A-level predictions are A*A*A, the grade requirement for camb law is A*AA, so you will have to get higher than just As.
I recommend putting as much effort into your A-Levels to get those predictions up and the best result possible.
Focus on the LNAT over the summer too (aim for around 30) and make your personal statement as good as you can
Cambridge reviews your application holistically (meaning they take everything into account) and even Cambridge admissions themselves have said “amazing a levels can make up for less than great GCSEs”
You have a chance if you make sure the other elements of your application are as strong as they can be
Good luck! I hope to see you at Cambridge in a couple years

Hey! Remember it doesn't matter what choice you put the unis in so if you're happy to use it as a choice there's no harm in that. The only disadvantage would be doing your LNAT sooner and risking getting a lower score that what you could get if you did it at a later date.

I really don't want to put you off if Cambridge is your dream, but I got 9999999988 at GCSE and A*A*A* predicted A levels and didn't get in after my interview. So if you want to play it safe and save one of your UCAS places for somewhere else my true advice would be to leave Cambridge. But like I said, if you want to take the risk, it's yours to take, and you'll never know otherwise.

Hope I could help 🙂

What was your LNAT score and college you applied to, if you don't mind me asking?
Did you feel like your interview did not go well?

As others have said, "weaker" GCSE's aren't the end of the world but you do need to make up for it somehow. As someone said before, just AAA won't be enough (won't even meet the minimum requirement, let alone be outstanding in Cambridge's eyes) so the best thing would be to be predicted at least A*A*A (one above the minimum). Also, you probably need a pretty high LNAT score to be considered for interview. To get an offer, you'll need to do well in interview; it's not the only important part of your application, but it will be crucial in this case.

Still, even if you do all of these things right, I'm just gonna be honest right now and say that it's far from guaranteed you get in. Law is crazily competitive and people with perfect stats and decent interviews have still been rejected because there simply weren't enough places. This has nothing to do with the strength of your application, but more with the strength of other people's applications (and, frankly, a bit of luck).

However, you've got five UCAS choices. It's useless to waste any of them on a uni you don't want to go to anyway. If you get the minimum predicted grades, I'd say you just go for it, you've got four other choices left so practically nothing to lose!
