A Level Further Maths for Law???

I’ve just started Year 12 and I’m taking Law (AQA), Psychology (AQA) and Maths (Edexcel). At GCSE I got 999888775 (including a 9 in Maths), and Maths was the subject I enjoyed the most.

I’m not really looking to go down a STEM route though I’m more interested in studying Law at a Russell Group uni or maybe through a degree apprenticeship.

My school also offers Further Maths (Edexcel), and I’m debating whether to take it as a 4th A Level. I think I’d enjoy the challenge and I’m willing to put the work in, but I’m not sure if it would actually help me with Law or just add unnecessary pressure.

Would it be worth taking Further Maths in my situation, or is it better to stick with my current subjects? Any advice is appreciated!!

If you think you'd enjoy it, take it 🙂 I took FM at A level with 4 subjects + EPQ and although it didn't help with law, it really boosted my maths grade. The grade requirements for law are pretty high, so it's nice to pick subjects you like and are confident you can do well in. I don't regret taking FM, even though I don't think I'll ever use it in my law degree.

Yes I was also considering an EPQ but was a bit worried about the workload as that's a lot. I'm glad you don't regret taking it, it's useful to hear that from someone who took FM and done a law degree. One of the main reasons I want to do it is also because I think it'll help my maths grade too so good to hear that was the case for you!!

Hi there,

law does not require a specific combination and you seem more than capable enough to take further maths - so I would do it 🙂 Just be aware of workload

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)
