Supervisor emails for Targeted Cambridge Biosciences DTP PhD studentships

Prior to submitting the Cambridge Biosciences DTP PhD application, you are supposed to email the supervisor of your chosen project(s) (if applying for a targeted or iCase studentship) to discuss their projects. I am hoping for some advice on writing emails to the supervisors in this context. How formal/informal are you supposed to go? How much are you supposed to pitch yourself or discuss yourself and your experience? Is it a pitch or is it just a way to introduce yourself and ask questions about the project?

Any help/advice would be appreciated, especially from people who have applied or been through the application process before. Thanks!

Hi,

So from my experinece, you should be formal in your first email. However, most DTPs have projects that are already available with the supervisors. I wouldn't use it as a pitch (since thats what you get from the interview). Take the opportunity to ask about project, the funding who you are working with etc. Feel free to dm me if you'd like to know more 🙂.
