Freshers' Week at DMU

Hi everyone,

I’m Ilya, a final-year Cyber Security student here at De Montfort University. I’d like to share a few tips and give you an idea of what to expect during Freshers’ Week.

Freshers’ Week is one of the most exciting times of your university journey. It’s your chance to meet new people, settle into campus life, and start building friendships that can last far beyond your studies. Throughout the week, there will be a wide range of events designed to welcome you - from fun social activities and themed nights out to workshops, information sessions, and several different student fairs.

Make sure to attend as many events as you can. The various student fairs are especially worth visiting. You’ll find plenty of societies, sports clubs, volunteering projects, and local organisations to get involved with. Plus, they’re a great place to grab some free goodies, discounts, and useful information for the year ahead. Joining societies is one of the best ways to explore your interests, try something new, and meet people who share your passions.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s going to a club night, joining a society you’ve never considered before, or simply starting a conversation with someone new, these experiences often lead to some of the most memorable moments at university.

Freshers’ Week is all about you. Take this time to explore, make connections, and set the tone for the year ahead. The more you get involved, the more rewarding your university experience will be.

If you have any questions about events, societies, or just student life at DMU please feel free to reach out. I’m happy to share my experience and help you settle in.

Wishing you a fantastic start to your journey at DMU!

Best regards,
Ilya
