How to become a student ambassador at DMU

Hi everyone,

I’m Ilya, a Student Ambassador and a Cyber Security student at De Montfort University. I’ve had quite a few people reach out to me recently asking how to become a Student Ambassador, so I decided to put together a short guide to make the process clearer.

Being a Student Ambassador is a fantastic experience that opens up a lot of opportunities. You get to be involved in a wide variety of activities that really make a difference, such as welcoming visitors during Open Days, guiding campus tours, supporting school visits, and helping out at university events. There are sometimes opportunities to do telemarketing for the university, and for me one of the most exciting parts has been contributing to the university’s social media, which is both fun and rewarding because you get to share your experience and help future students feel more connected.

The journey to becoming a Student Ambassador starts with keeping an eye out for the advertisement of the role on Unitemps, the university’s partner and employment platform that manages most part-time jobs on campus. Once you find the role, you submit your CV along with answers to a few short questions about yourself and your motivation. If your application is successful, you will be invited to an interview. My interview was a genuinely enjoyable experience: we took part in group activities, talked about our own experiences as students, and discussed how we could bring value to visitors and applicants. If you do well at the interview, you are welcomed into the Ambassador community and become part of a team that helps shape the experience of future students.

Being an Ambassador is not only a great way to develop valuable skills like communication, teamwork and confidence, but also a chance to meet new people and be involved in the university in a meaningful way. It is a role that allows you to give something back while also benefiting personally and professionally.

If you are considering applying and have any questions about the role or the process, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to share my experience and encourage more students to join our welcoming Ambassador community.

Best regards,
Ilya

Hello, I applied for this role, and I was wondering when I will receive an update about my application. Thank you.
Hi there,

I hope this message finds you well. That’s great news, you have applied for the role! The Student Ambassador role offers a wide range of opportunities, both on and off campus. For example, you might take part in campus tours, open days, or even visit different schools to share your experience at De Montfort University.

For anyone who has applied, you’ll be contacted soon by our team regarding the outcome of your application. If your application is successful, you’ll receive an invitation to book your interview timeslot. Interviews are held over the course of a week, so you can choose a time that best fits your schedule.

If you successfully pass your interview, you’ll then be invited to a training session whether you’re joining as a Student Ambassador or a Telemarketing Ambassador. We’ll ensure you receive all the necessary training and feel fully prepared for the role. You’ll also be provided with official Ambassador T-shirts and hoodies to wear during your shifts.
For now, I’d recommend giving it a little more time while we process applications. Wishing you the very best of luck! 🍀
