Hi there! Although I study a different course (so I don't know much about dentistry!), if you have any general questions about Plymouth as a university/city feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to help 🙂
Best of luck for your future applications!

Hey, thank you so much! I'm just wondering how is Plymouth in general as a university, like the people, area and everything.
Hiya, no worries at all! 🙂 Plymouth as a city was actually one of the main reasons I chose the university as the location is super, with great shops and facilities close by for living, being not too crowded of a city but having everything a student could need, lots of natural spaces and the sea close by, as well as a vibrant night life and social events too.
The university community is super inclusive and welcoming, with lots of events on campus run by the SU and university itself to involve students from all backgrounds and preferences, whether you enjoy live music or crafting events or movies or sports, there's something for everyone to get involved in. There are also so many societies to join with so many options depending on whether you want to try something new or already have a hobby or sport you want to continue with! 😄
The facilities and campus are also great with a library that has a space open 24/7 year-round for studying, lots of study spaces and cafés on campus, as well as modern buildings and state of the art teaching facilities and equipment to use in your studies and course.
Hopefully this helps and if you have any more questions, feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to help! 👋

thank you so much for your help! your response really has made me more interested into applying to study plymouth to study dentistry in the future, despite the high competition😅

hiya id say be careful w kcl because they actually weigh gcses a lot and people applying would be aiming for 7,8,9. if you’re contextual tho the situation may be different.
ucat is super super important. i got rejected kcl dent last year w 99999999988 A*A*A 2710 b1

oh wow really? yeah that makes sense i’m gonna focus a lot on my ucat and alevels now and see what predicted grades i get at the end of year 12 and apply accordingly to that. i also found out that qmul also would take dentistry applicants if they don’t do chem a level but thank you! is it okay if i can ask what you’re doing at uni now and which uni u go to? also, my friend just started dentistry at kcl this year she got similar gcse’s to me but with 8s including a grade 6 in English lang and she got a ucat of 3020 with a band 2 but she still go accepted so maybe there’s some hope for me😓

Oh my God i’ve found someone in the same position as me !!
I just started y12, looking to do dentistry, & i stupidly only applied to two sixth forms 1. my current (which isn’t very good) and 2. a really competitive one that has really good student prospects. long story short i got a 6 in chem which isn’t enough for the competitive sixth form but still chose to go as i still felt i had a better chance at getting into dent regardless.
Btw Manchester used to do a dentistry with foundation year course that allowed no chem but i emailed they don’t do it anymore ☹️ maybe for 2027 entry they might bring it back? unlikely but i’ll keep u posted if they email again.
We’re in it together twin fr 😭🤞
p.s also i got 999 8.5 (cambridge national, 8.5 was the highest grade lol) 877766 (avg 7.56 :/ )
thing is my 9s are in essay based subjects 😞 and in stem i kinda flopped (7s and 6s) so i’m not thrilled w it
but since ur friend got a few 6s and got into kings i have some hope (but she probs got those in essay based subjects and good in stem so still a bit worried)

omg twinnn in my opinion what sixth form you go to shouldn’t matter that much i feel as if unis acc like care/lok more at ur grades tbh bc like even the best sixth forms ppl can come out with Bs or Cs it all depends on yourself and your grades.
i heard about manchester and that’s so annoying that they don’t do that anymore because i acc would have applied there then but i feel like manchester looks at gcses a lot and mine isn’t the best tbh
getting grade 9s regardless of what subjects u achieved them in is still a huge achievement so that is still so amazing well done!!! as long as u do have the minimum requirements of gcse grades for the unis u do want to apply to u should be fine. because for me i wanted to do chem at a level because obviously for dentistry but then i thought about getting it remarked since i was 3 marks off a grade 7 and my sixth form wouldnt let me do chem if i didn’t have a 7 or over bc its a grammar skl bu i thought about it and looked at unis which didn’t require chem and i thought why should i do chem if i found it difficult at gcses and there are a few unis that allow me to study dentsitry without chem so i ended up not getting it remarked and taking physics instead
yes my friend she got 8888887776 the 6 being in lang and 8s being in math and sciences and an option subject and the 7s in the rest. she told me that she got offered a spot for dentistry at kings mostly because of her ucat score being realllyyy high and she was predicted 3 A* and she got her place at the end so don’t worry about it because there’s nothing we can really do now about it all we can do now is just focus on our grades and get the highest grades and a really high ucat to go study dentistry at whichever uni we want to 😁

agreed but tbh my old sixth form was so bad and the work ethic was just not there like ppl are so unsrs there. ofc its about me i could just go library and lock in but im very affected by my surroundings so knew i wouldn't get anything done there. plus i hate the people there stuck with them for 5 years was ENOUGH 😭
also i didnt know manchester looked at gcse but given its with a foundation year wouldnt they have accepted lower gcse scores?
same w my sxith form- i got a 6 for chem but i need a 7. also physics?!?! wow well done all i can say is good luck 😭 also yes we're in it tg! i need to grind for that ucat im so so scared i applied for a job at boots lol and u had to do this exam similar to the sjt- u get situations and u choose how u would respond.

yes i totally get you bc i remember during gcses i was friends with people who really didn’t care about their grades which had an impact on me and how i had peformed in my gcses but now i made friends who acc care about their grades and know how to have fun whilst doing so
i just checked they want a minimum of 7 7s so i can’t really apply there even if i did do chem but u should be fine with it
physics is literally killing me rn i found it quite simple at gcses but the exam questions in a level is so bad i hate it but bio and math is going alright for me wbu?
wth that’s so scary i wouldn’t have thought boots would’ve done something like that but its okay if you flopped there’s sm other places u can apply to
