Should I apply for law at Oxford?

Midway through Year 11, I moved countries due to family circumstances. I relocated from the UK to Pakistan, which meant I had to take my GCSEs in batches. For example, I sat Maths and English in one series, and Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in the next. Over the course of two years, I completed my GCSEs while also undergoing surgery and dealing with a few other mitigating factors. Despite this, I achieved AAAAAAA*.

I taught myself the entire syllabus from scratch without the help of a school or tutors, and I am doing the same for my A Levels.

Another reason I had to sit my exams in different batches was because I needed to change subjects many were not offered in Pakistan, and the syllabus was quite different from the UK’s.

Currently, my A Level subjects are Economics, Maths, and English Literature. I want to study Law, but I know Oxford places significant importance on GCSEs and usually expects them to be taken in one series. This makes me sceptical about whether I stand a chance. I know I can ask my referee to mention all of this in my reference, but will Oxford actually take it into account? Do I stand a chance?

You need to contact Oxford by email and ask them. I stress do it by email because then you have the evidence but also be aware as I’m sure you are, by telling them this you are evidently opening yourself up to the argument of home vs international fees

Yes that’s another problem, I have heard that if you still pay council tax in the uk you qualify for home student status but then there’s also the whole must be resident in the country three years before start date’! So I’m not particularly open to the idea of emailing them.

You can't hide where you did your qualifications or where you live now.

You might as well find out.

It's what Oxford think that matters.

Fair enough, thank you.
