It's usually done during welcome week so that your uni can then confirm to your student finance body that you have registered before you first instalment is due.

Hi,
Students usually complete their online registration before university starts, typically after results day once places are confirmed. Once you’ve fully registered, the university confirms your enrolment to Student Finance. After this, your funding is released on the scheduled payment dates.
