Over 50 and studying...

Hi, I'd love to connect with anyone else in their 40's or 50's who's studying.
I'm feeling a little isolated and would love to hear from anyone going through this.

Hi,

I hope you re well. I have just seen your post, I am not over 50 however I am 35 and a year 3 student myself at university.

I have and still experience isolation at university and at times it can be very overwhelming and lonely.

Due to these experiences I have decided to research this topic to gain some inside understanding on why mature students suffer these feelings of isolation and in essence out of place feelings and what support is on offered to students feeling this way.

Maybe we could chat about this further.

Hope your ok!

Hi @Suffolkstudent, I'm mid-40's and doing a masters with a load of 20-somethings, so I get where you're coming from. They are lovely people but we are mostly just colleagues. Some completely ignore me, some are on nodding terms, others are chattier. To be honest, I'm more focused on using any spare time to go to the library / do extra reading than socialise, so being on the outside of the close friendship groups is fine by me.

Does your university have many other mature students on other courses? Some universities seem to attract more older mature students than others. How about societies? Is there a mature students society, or other societies that might attract people that you share more interests with, even if they might differ from you in age?
