Hi @shalini15562

Which University is the “best” really depends on what matters most to you!

However, I’d also suggest looking at the University of Law. ULaw specialises entirely in law and has strong links with firms, regular careers events, and dedicated support from day one through to after you graduate. We also have multiple campuses and good accommodation options, so it can be worth considering alongside your choices.

Whichever you pick, make sure you go somewhere you’ll feel supported and motivated, as that will be ample for your experience and grades, which will matter most when you start applying for jobs later on.

You should look at and sign up for one of our upcoming open days. This way, you can get a feel for our University and the experience we offer!

Hiya

Decision making process about university can be really stressful as there are so many things to consider. One thing that helped me out when applying was attending the open days and the course modules seemed similar but I preferred the vibe of the city in Sheffield compared to other unis I had offers for. If you have the opportunity, I would recommend visiting an open day so that you can talk to some lecturers, meet prospective students from your course and explore the city a bit to see if you like it. If you can't make it, there are also some online videos you can check out from universities that give you tours and explain things.

Open Day Information - there are two open days coming up for Sheffield which you can sign up for, else there is information at the bottom of the page on how to find out about Sheffield through other methods.

In terms of job possibilities, there are plenty of job fairs and career opportunities that the university supports with and advertises for their students through our career connect portal. We have CV checks, cover letter help and mock interview preparation for students to ensure that they feel suitably prepared for applying to jobs.

In terms of accommodation, there are two main locations. There is the student village where majority of the students stay like Ranmoor and Endcliffe. Then, there is also the city accommodation which more closer to city centre and university buildings. Ranmoor and Endcliffe are around a 20-25 minute walk to the Student's Union whereas the city accommodation is 10 minutes. Both are really nice locations, I stayed in city as I found it more convenient for classes and I loved it.

If you have any other questions about Sheffield, let me know!

Hi Shalini,

Glad to hear you're considering York! I thought I'd share a couple of details about what it's like to study Law at York to help you make your decision.

Studying Law at York is unique as we're the only Law school in the country to use problem-based learning as the basis of our teaching. This means that you approach and learn about the Law in a much more practical manner. You'll work in small student law firms to break down complex legal situations together, in a similar way to how an actual practicing lawyer might. Here's a vlog from one of our first year students that breaks down what it's like to study with problem-based learning in a bit more detail.

We believe problem-based learning helps our students to stand out to potential employers after they graduate, but we also offer a robust careers and development programme that gives you multiple opportunities throughout the year to develop your skills, network with employers and gain actual work experience. Check out more here.

In terms of accommodation, we have a wide range of different on-campus options covering our two campuses. There are options to suite all budgets and preferences, with a number of accommodation blocks very close to our Law School. I recommend having a look through here..

If you've got any more specific questions, I recommend reaching out to [email protected] - they'd be more than happy to have a chat.

Best of luck with your decision and I hope this was helpful.
Sam
