Leeds or Manchester - Dentistry

Gap year student, resitting A levels
UCAT = 2100 & band 1
A level = AAB (B in chem, which I am gonna resit - hoping to get an A* predicted)
EPQ = A* in EPQ
GCSE = 988777766 D2

Applying for dentistry 2026 entry, but only some unis allow resist, so my options are fairly limited
I'm thinking
KCL (aspirational)
Plymouth
Sheffield
Manchester / Leeds

With Manchester, I think the loose cut-off is 2110, but apparently, if you do an EPQ, they can still invite you for interview? Leeds, I've heard, is rlly competitive, so I'm not sure what the safest option would be

Also, if anyone knows any dental practices in Swldn that offer work experience, please lmk

Hey ,
Im also a gap year applicant - achieved grades of AAA. 2140 band 1 .
Im unsure whether to apply to kings/ manchester too. My teacher said its too high and to choose Leeds ( however they have a very low post interview acceptance rate so I'm unsure too tbh.
Idk if Kings is more risky or Manny.

I'm pretty sure King's entry requirements are A*AA, unless your WP
yeah Leeds post interview acceptance rate is scary...

Do you mind if I ask how you found out UCAT cut off for Manchester? Thanks

Cardiff is a good option for you as you get point for achieved A level

Last year Manchester the lowest ucat with B1 was 2840 , which is 2130. This year higher will be still I would expect.

They do state they may consider those with exceptional academics if they are just below the cut off

For 2026 entry, it is not available of course. But previous years are on their website ….

Is Cardiff still going to score GCSE grades like before? 8/9=4. Anyone been to Cardiff open day?

hi guys i have gcses 8888888766 AAB acheived (resitting two and predicted A*A) - im trying to decide between manchester and newcastle but im unsure which i have the best chance in esp with my gcses? does anyone know if leeds manny and newcastle look at 8s and 9s the same??
Hiya, great to hear you're interested in studying at Plymouth 😊

Although I don't study the same course, if you have any general questions too about the university or city, feel free to let me know and I'd be happy to help 🙂 We also have lots of upcoming open days which I'd highly recommend to give you a feel for the campus, hear about courses and facilities, as well as tour the spaces you could be having lectures and sessions in.

Best of luck with your application! 🙌

Leeds apparently do differentiate between 8's and 9's but just look at your top 6 GCSE's ; after checking you meet all of the entry requirement ones but these dont have to be included in your top 6 points. But with all 8's I think you'd be good. Ive got 988887 for mine and gonna apply. 50/50 academic and UCAT results for interview selection. But do say want AAA predicteds.

Newcastle - very UCAT score heavy so not sure how much GCSE's factor in once requirements met?
Someone please corect me if Im wrong as considering both of these options myself. Not partners applicant though so that should definitely help your application.

Manchester - Have hears you need good UCAT and competetive GCSE's. Was told by a dentist student friend that with my UCAT and GCSE's of 9888877765 I might not be competetive enough.

But its all abit of a gamble this year isnt it. But looking at stats I would say Leeds and Newcastle, with partners, seem like good options. Best of luck with wherever you decide.

Avoid Leeds if I was you they interview 500 and give very few offers.

That may just be bcos last year they had a ridiculous number of applicants as was first year they used the UCAT so nobody kne the threshold so maybe they had more excellent scoring candidates to call to interview. Or was it the case from when they used the BMAT in previous years too, do you know? Genuinely interested as thinking of Leeds and dental student friend thought that a safer bet than Manchester for my stats. so hard to know though. Just dont want to waste a single choice; as only got the 4! Really want the 5th.

Yep, more people will have B1 and B2 SJT scores so bigger pool of applicants potentially for Manchester to consider this year.
