Choosing Combined Honours Help?!

Thinking, at Exeter, of doing either:

BA Philosophy & Politics, or,

BA Philosophy & English

I feel like pros of politics would be: more employable degree (perchance, although not definitive), better discipline to have formally studied, is an already established combined honours (english would have to be under FCH), and would result in me being deeply informed on the world.

Pros of english would be: I got a few marks off A* at a level and loved it loads (never taken politics before), more of a contrasting discipline than Phil & Pol (is more different, therefore would be a nice change presumably), and would help me become extremely well-read.

Any help form anyone would be great - thanks!
Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out! and they sound like very sensible choices all-round. Exeter is also a very good uni!

Both of these degrees will open up similar kinds of doors career-wise. Have you had any thoughts on what you'd like to do afterwards?

I think you should choose the degree you think you'd enjoy most and you think you'll get the most out of - you're going to be doing it for three-four years and so if you are engaged it will be much easier to do well. What do you think of the course modules?

Have you visited Exeter's open day? (On their website) - they have 3 coming up in October and there are still spaces left. Visiting the place and hearing course presentations on both of the courses is a great way to compare them and hear more about what you'd be studying.

I hope this helps a bit!

Hi Oliver

I'm sorry to inform you that following a careful review of our programme portfolio and owing to various external factors we have taken the difficult decision to close our Flexible Combined Honours programme at the University of Exeter. We still have a variety of combined honours programmes and an exciting Liberal Arts programme. All of which include the opportunity to experience studying more than one subject with us.

So our ever popular Politics, Philosophy and Economics BA is still available and you can search our All courses A-Z listing for other established combined subjects however the option to mix alternative subject under our Flexible Combined Honours is no longer available.
