Compelling personal reasons rejected SFE - help!

Hi. My situation is very complex. My mum was diagnosed with chronic ulcerative colitis in 2020. Which is a chronic condition coming out unpredictably in flare ups. During these it can be very severe and she needs help doing things around the house. My brother has been fighting his mental health since 2023 he is suicidal, self harms, has a restrictive food intake disorder among other things. In 2022/2023 things were peaking and I had to spend lots of time at home helping the house run correctly and was basically an informal carer for my mother and brother in their worst times. Helping her do daily tasks, tasks around the house, helping my brother, monitoring him, making sure he has food readily available etc. my mum definitely needs the help during flare ups.
Unfortunately as ulcerative colitis is a chronic condition, my mum just pops her meds and waits for it to pass - due to NHS waiting lists, my brother has only received proper help, diagnoses and care since the middle of 2024. So even though these things were going on and absolutely destroying my ability to balance university (which was 200 miles away) with home life during the academic years of 2022/23 and 2023/24 - I don’t have a lot of documentation for the specific academic years.
I sent about 50-60 headed medical letters dated from 2020-2024 and I received an email today saying my request for cpr was rejected. Most of my mums documentation, however, was from initial diagnoses in 2020 and 2024

‘Whilst the evidence received confirms the health issues experienced by both
your mother and sibling, there is no evidence that confirms the caring
responsibilities you have referred to impacted your ability to continue
your studies during the academic years in question.‘

What the hell can I do here - it absolutely ruined my life during these times and yet because it was informal I have absolutely no way to prove it. I need help and suggestions. Thank you for reading.

Hi there,

We're sorry to hear about this - if you've provided every possible bit of evidence it may be worth making an appeal: our Appeals team will review your case and see if there's anything they can do.

You can e-mail them directly using this e-mail address:

Thanks Graeme, I’ve made an appeal and am working on getting a retrospective doctors letter relating to anxiety-linked hospital visits I had during this time period.

Thanks. The team will review this and further advise once this has been done. Please be advised this is currently taking 33+ working days to be reviewed. So do advise the university of the current estimated timescale. Thanks, Jason
