Mature Returning Student

Hi I have some questions about options.
I want to return to university studies but I don't know if i can get student finance. I have used 3 years of funding from retrying years of study due to personal reasons and then i have been out of education for 3 years?

I dont really know what to do if i cant get SfE either if you know what i can do there either? I really need to do university and i have no idea what to do around finance. i made stupid decisions when i was younger because i had pretty much no guidance and i dont know what i can do if that ruins my life :frown:

Hi there,

Can you please tell us what kind of course you want to study now? Is this full-time or part-time?

Did you gain a qualification from your previous study?

Thanks, Graeme

I would like to study a full-time course if possible. I did not gain any qualifications from previous study.

Thanks

Do you know what course you would like to do as some courses are classified as exceptions and previous study is disregarded? The more information you can give, the reps will be better placed to advise you.

Thank you. If you confirm the type of course you're looking to study so we can advise on eligibility options. Thanks, Jason

Ah sorry! Looking to do Chemistry bachelors or masters, with a Foundation year if needed as i've not been in education for a while. its Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Chemical Engineering as the three kind of hot subjects id want to apply for. I will also be limiting really to the Man Met uni, Uni of Manc and Uni of Salford if that info helps. Thank you for taking the time to answer this query!

Thanks. This would then be a previous study calculation so we'd look at your previous study to determine the years of funding you have left.

For a full time undergraduate course, we fund all years + 1 additional year. If you're looking to start a new course and have 3 years of previous study then you're tuition fees would be as follows (if it's a four year course)

4+1-3=2 years of full funding

Meaning that you'd be awarded Maintenance Loan (and any applicable grants) for the duration but for years 1 and 2 you wouldn't be eligible for tuition fees. Unless you previously withdrew or failed a year due to reasons outwith your control.

I've enclosed further information here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/going-back-to-uni-or-repeating-a-year

Thanks, Jason
