Metaphysics, definitely, but basically anything that starts a debate in class (almost everything, my class is quite active so I'm lucky!)

How about you?

I love having debates in class 🙂 My table consists of two meat-eaters, a vegetarian (me), a pescetarian, and a vegan, so meat eating in Applied Ethics always gets an argument lol. I think my favourite topic though is Metaphysics of the Mind, I love it when they give you some theory that seems utterly manic and insane and then half an hour later you're like "hmm maybe they have a point"
Here's a question for you: Do you think Philosophy (even a little bit) should be mandatory?

What do you mean by table? Yours sounds fun!

About the question, in my country philsosophy is actually mandatory for everyone HAHAHAHAH. We must take it for the last two years of school. I definitely think it should be like that everywhere because it makes people think, and most people wouldn't take it if it was optional but end up loving it!

By table I mean the actual table that I sit on in my classroom, my class has several table groups so it's basically the people near enough to me to debate with without talking across the room lol.

And ahh I see! Didn't know Philosophy was mandatory in some countries. It's optional in mine, but I totally agree that at least a bit of philosophy should be mandatory to learn key skills like critical thinking, how to set up an argument etc.

Ohhhh right 😅🤦*♀️

We are not really allowed to debate like that though, of you want to add anything you raise your hand and say it for everyone, and the person who wants to talk back raises again, so there's order. At the end of the class we do the whoever's near thing as well though!

Yea that's what we do, we have whole-class discussions and then when we're done with our work we chat amongst the table. Sometimes when we're ahead we have whole lessons where we'll just debate, those are fun. What do your class debate about the most?

The ethics topic was really intense! People just kept on devising this highly improbable scenarios to discuss but the teacher went along with it! How about you?

I feel like half of philosophy is just making up extreme scenarios to debate with lmao. Hilary Putnams super Spartans and stuff. Oddly enough it's usually the epistemology topics that get the most debate in the class, but among my table it's meat eating in applied ethics

No problem and it's great you want to broaden your knowledge  Even if you're not doing philosophy a-level, you can still use study resources to find out more, YouTube videos and podcasts etc. 'Philosophy gets schooled' and 'Jeffrey Kaplan' are good channels
