Orthoptics

Hi I’m thinking about applying for orthoptics at Sheffield and Liverpool but I heard that Liverpool does not have the best student support so if anyone went or is currently studying there please let me know if that is actually case. Also how are job prospects in this field including salaries as I keep getting mixed results. If anyone is currently studying or already has studied
orthoptics is the content difficult? And how is the drop out rate?

Hi!

To see the official course data for orthoptics at Sheffield you can visit this website which has information on salaries, graduate views/outcomes etc.

Although I don't study orthoptics, in general in terms of support at Sheffield I can say I've had a really positive experience! I've always known how to get help if I needed it and my department is really understanding. You can have a look at all the different types of support there is at Sheffield here but just to name a few examples there is a free counselling service available, dedicated dyslexia and disability support and everyone is assigned an academic tutor in their department too!

If you have any other questions about Sheffield or university in general please let me know! ☺️

Check the NHS jobs website. There are very few jobs for Orthoptists currently due to a lack of money in NHS trusts. Unless the government provides more money then you won't be seeing many new jobs in fields like Orthoptics, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine etc. anytime soon. Radiography has slightly fewer jobs than new graduates currently, but the situation isn't too bad, and Speech and Language Therapy has somewhat more jobs available than new graduates to fill them.
