Changing uni course in year 1

Hello, I am a new undergraduate student studying cyber security.

I’m not interested in, it’s week 3, I am feel like I don’t have the passion, and am struggling with it with the programming.

I’m interested in switching to Accounting and Finance and have tried to ask my university but then they are not supportive. My student support have just said I need to contact my course leader but there is no one I can speak to who about any advice wether it’s the right decision. I am struggling in class, with not understanding any

Hey,
I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's completely normal to realise a course isn't the right fit, especially in the first few weeks. Please don't worry, you're not alone.
You're doing the right thing by trying to find a solution.
Since your current efforts haven't worked, here are two other key people at the university you should try contacting right away:

The Enrollment Team: They manage all course enrollments and changes for current students. Email them to request a switch to Accounting and Finance. They will provide details on the process, deadlines, and options, and are typically more responsive than individual course leaders.

Your Academic Tutor: Contact your assigned academic tutor via email. They can help with academic issues and important decisions, offering advice on whether this move is the right fit for you.

Hope this helps! 😊

Hiya!

I’m sorry your uni isn’t supportive, but I’m glad you’ve found a course you’re interested in studying.

It sucks that you don’t have a clear contact to discuss this move with so I have a few suggestions that may help.

Similar to what the Manchester rep has said above, the enrolment team and academic teams are great starting points to see if you can change course. You can also contact your student union to see if they can offer advice on what to do.

While you’re contacting these teams, make sure to check the entry requirements for accounting and finance. That way you’re prepared before making the move. If your university has an open day coming up, you could also attend the accounting and finance open day and ask questions there.

I hope you find a solution. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Hi, thank you. Sorry I didn’t finish off my message correctly.

I just don’t know wether I am enjoying the course, and weather it’s the right decision.

It’s so difficult to know what’s right!

Hey there 👋

It seems as though you have already got some great advice on who to contact for help from other reps. In terms of knowing whether you would enjoy Accounting and Finance more or not, I would definitely look into the modules that they have over the whole course and compare it to the modules of cyber security.

You can also see if you could meet up with a lecturer from accounting and financing and have a discussion with them about the style of teaching, expectations and assignments on that course! If you speak to someone about this then you might get a better idea of whether you’re in the wrong course or not ☺️

Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any more questions!
