Personal issues at uni

So, I want to talk to someone at uni about my personal issues atm as I’m struggling a little bit and I want it to be someone I already know like my pdt or lecturer. I feel like I should talk to my pdt but I trust my lecturer a lot more. Should I talk to my pdt anyway or can my lecturer help? I just want a listening ear not necessarily help. Does any have any advice?

Definitely still email your lecturer if you feel easier communicating with them :hugs: Even if they aren't the right person they should still be able to point you in the right direction

When I was at uni my original personal tutor was a bit useless responding to emails. It also didn't help they weren't lecturing/teaching any of the modules or modules I'd be doing in the future, they then poofed into thin air and turned out they'd left :iiam:. In the end I ended up 'adopting' a new personal tutor :hide: :colondollar:

Hi,

Sorry to hear that you are struggling a little bit. My best advice would be to email whoever you feel most comfortable discussing your personal issue with. Any member of staff at uni should be able to help you or if not, guide you to the correct place for support no matter what the issue is! If you feel as though you have a lot more trust in your lecturer and you feel confident that they will be able to assist you better then I would say contact them.

Does your uni have a student support team? I know at LJMU they have a team of people who specialise in helping students with any issues ranging from assignment help, finance issues and other personal issues. It could be worth seeking them out and dropping them an email or a quick visit too.

I hope you manage to sort out the problem, just go with your gut and speak to whoever you feel will help you the most! Let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hi @Anonymous 👋

Personal tutor would be the best person to talk to but it is ok to talk to a lecturer as well. I suggest letting your personal tutor know but talking more to your lecturer if you feel more comfortable with them rather than your tutor 😊

Hi there,

I'm sorry that you are dealing with personal issues and not sure who to speak to about them. I would say that you speak to who you are most comfortable with. I'm sure your lecturer would listen and be supportive. Any member of staff should be able to help, direct you the relevant people and guide you in the right direction.

Does your university have student support teams? It's great to familiarise yourself with teams like this and make the most of them. Here at the University of Lancashire, we have teams to help with academic support, wellbeing and careers to name a few. It's definitely worth making the most of support and facilities at university.

Hope this helps and you find the right person for you to speak to 🙂

Best wishes, ^Zac
Very good advice on this thread. Do try your lecturer. I have my personal tutor, which while I am comfortable with discussing my overall uni experience, I have often turned to one of my year 1 lecturers with some struggles. I most recently did this last week, even though she hasn't taught me for quite a while now!

Hey there! I am really sorry to hear that you are struggling. But it is great that you are open to talking to someone.

I always suggest talking to who you are most comfortable with, and if that is your lecturer then sure! If there is any problem with this, I am sure they will let you know. I am sure talking to your personal tutor as well is never an issue.

If your University does a well-being team, that is also always another great option. The variety also allows you to get a different perspective in relation to what you are going through!

I hope everything goes well, and feel free to ask anymore questions you may have.
