Depends what you're doing. I worked for a year during mine. My daughter did the same.
Pro: money
Con: kinda frustrating when your college friends are going off to uni and you feel a bit left behind
Pro: work experience for your CV
Con: boring
Pro: money

I took a gap year myself before heading into university. Many people take gap years to take some time off to travel or work to earn some money. Do you have any plans or intensions if you take a gap year?
