Tmua prep

Heyy there,
I'm in Grade 11 and I was wondering when I should strat tmua prep? Also, I'm not an IB student, so I can't take further maths and might have to learn some basics and stuff on my own before really starting prep

Hi! Just so you're aware, tmua doesn't use any further maths content as far as I know. It's all based on topics from the first year of alevel maths.

Oh thankyou! But I heard from some people that it's different from alevel content and there's certain topics to learn if a person doesn't have fm. Dyk, how diff they're?

As far as I know, everything on the tmua spec is covered in AS-level Maths, except from sequences and series which are a y13 topic. It's possible that knowledge from fm could be helpful (though I don't know which topics specifically would help the most, maybe roots of polynomials?) but the expected solution will only ever require AS-level and sequences and series

Hi. Been teaching the TMUA for years. The TMUA specification is split into Paper 1 and Paper 2. ConfusedPenguin1 is right, there is no actual content beyond the first year of a regular A Level. However Paper 2 uses logic and proof concepts which are often not covered in the A Level (unless you have a teacher that likes that sort of thing).

Also both papers focus on problem solving so it is not the content itself that is difficult but how it is presented. It is definitely worth practising as they are not like standard A Level questions. There are plenty of past papers available online so check them out to get an idea of what the test looks like.
