University Change

Hi everyone, I'm currently in my first year of my LLB law degree at Aberdeen University, However I genuinely want to transfer to a university closer to home but now think that I may be wanting to pursue a Nursing degree instead as I had always originally planned to study medicine. I am now worried that maybe I'm in a difficult situation due to me currently being in my LLB law year, any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

You want to study nursing because you wanted to study medicine? Is the long term goal to study medicine still, or do you just want to stick to nursing now?

In any case, I believe you're too late to do anything for this year. If you want to apply to nursing, then you'll have to apply via UCAS, much like you did for law, by the January 15th equal consideration deadline. Your PS should reference your change of heart and you'll need an academic reference from your current university. And it does sound like you might not fully know what you want to do so it'd be wise for you to take as much time to figure that out. Rushing onto things you're unsure about won't be the wisest idea!

Hi there.

My best advice would be to talk to your uni about how you are feeling and what you can do about transferring or changing universities. I am not sure you would be able to transfer now, but it is worth thinking about moving universities next year if this is something you are really interested in doing.

I also think it could be worth talking to your academic advisor if you have one, or just someone at your uni about whether they think it is a good idea. Of course it is your decision, but talking it through with someone and also just explaining your reasoning and why you want to do it may really help you see whether you do want to do it or not.

Talking to your loved ones should help too as they know you best and will want what is best for you! Ultimately, you don't want to do three years of something you don't like so it's worth thinking about it now!

I hope some of this helps,

Lucy -SHU student ambassador.

Hi there,

I completely emphasise with you and it's great that you know you want to transfer as it is you studying the course so you want to make sure it's the right one. Great start already! As mentioned by others already, I would suggest speaking to your uni. That could be your lecturer, admissions team or your academic advisor. Even thought it's your decision, they may be able to still give you advice and go through your options.

Think about this is a positive time even though you may not be able to transfer until next year. It'll be more time to figure it out and see what your options are. Could it be a time to get some experience or work and save up?

Hope this helps,
^Zac

Hi there,
Like what the others have mention, if you are sure that this area of study is not the best suited for you, speak to your academic advisor or personal tutor if you have one. They should be your your first point of contact to help you navigate these difficult decisions.
If you are thinking of transferring to a different university close to home, contact their admissions team or department to find out the transfer and admission process. I hope this helps and wishing you the best of luck in your decision.

Hi, this is the University of Aberdeen rep account and apologies for not noticing this post until now. I just wanted to echo what the above posters have said about getting in contact with someone at our university; you're obviously very welcome to pursue studying Nursing elsewhere but it would be worth talking to someone here to decide on if you would like to continue your current studies in the meantime or leave them. I would recommend getting in contact with [email protected] if you haven't already been in contact with your school or personal tutor, and I wish you all the best in finding the right path forward!
