University are letting me continue to Year 3 with reduced workload?

Situation: I failed a single compulsory Year 2 module. Just one module. So the university are letting me retake the module in Year 3 along with doing five Year 3 modules. Normally, Year 3 is 6 modules.

So they expect me to take a single module in the 2026/2027 year to graduate

How will SFE view this? Will they view me retaking a Year 2 module and doing 5 Year 3 modules as retaking Year 2? Or will they view it as Year 3?

The reason I ask this is because I've used up a gift year of funding due to withdrawing. So now I believe I only have 3 years of funding. I've already used up 2/3 years of funding.

Now the question is what will SFE do with this current academic year? Will they expect me to fund this year by myself or will they fund it for me? I understand i will probably need to fund the last module that the University want me to take the following academic year

The University said something about having fees adjusted down to reflect this or something. What does this mean?

Hi there,

Can you confirm if your course is full time or part time? Will you be doing the course over the full academic year?

Thanks,
Claire

Yes, I will be doing it over the full academic year. The university has given me my timetable which has modules from Autumn to Summer.

May I ask what the definition of full time is? I have lectures for 4 days out of 5. And doing 105 credits total this year

The university would advise if your course is full time or part time, as you may be doing full time course on part time basis or moving to part time course full time.

Claire

Okay, I will contact the university about this and find out.

But if I was still a full-time student would I still be eligble for funding? I know SFE have some policy where they apply funding starting from the last year to the first year to prevent situations where a student can't finish their studies. Would this type of situation apply to my case? Where they will fund my single module next year but expect me to fund this year

If your course is full time - Every student is entitled to funding for the length of their course plus one additional year, minus any previous study. If your course is 3 years and you have done 2 years and need to repeat year 2, the calculation would be 3+1-2=2 years left. This would be given in the final years of your course 2nd and 3rd. If you didn't have the funding for the repeat and your have Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) why you need to repeat, you can send in the evidence to be reviewed and the team will confirm if they can award the finance for repeat year.

Compelling Personal Reasons evidence (CPR)The evidence would be a letter on headed paper signed/stamped and dated from someone in profession i.e. Doctor/lecturer who knows the CPR. They must know how it affected your studies and the dates it affected you. Once received it will be up to the assessor if this will be accepted or not

Thanks,
Claire
