computer science @ royal holloway

Im worried I wont be able to get into rhul for computer science. I am predicted ABB, and got a 5 at gcse maths.
I want to study computer science with a year in industry.
If worst comes to worst, and I dont end up getting an offer or I need to go through clearing and worst case scenario they can only offer me computer science with an integrated foundation year, should I take it? is it worth the extra fees and year spent?
Im really interested in studying computer science and potentially going into cybersecurity after university, not studying it as my degree. I am doing an epq regarding cybersecurity aswell.
What should I do??

Hi there 👋

Thanks for reaching out - it’s totally understandable to feel a bit anxious during the application process, and it’s great to see how passionate you are about Computer Science and cybersecurity.

Your predicted grades of ABB and a GCSE Maths grade 5 are solid, and we’d definitely encourage you to apply for Computer Science with a Year in Industry. Your EPQ on cybersecurity is a brilliant way to show your interest and could really strengthen your application.

If things don’t go exactly as planned and you're offered a place on Computer Science with an Integrated Foundation Year, it’s still a valuable route. The foundation year helps build key skills and confidence, and many students go on to do really well in their degree and careers.

Also, keep an eye on Clearing - there may be opportunities to join your preferred course depending on availability and your final results.

If you have any questions about the course or application process, feel free to ask - we’re here to help 😊

Best wishes,
