Hiya @JJrudy , Many people take a year out to figure things out, travel or to work before going to university. Sometimes not by choice but because the timings did not match up. I think it's important to have a plan or some sort of intention when you take a gap year 🤗 What are your intentions for taking a gap year?
Taking a gap year really depends on personal preference and circumstances. Many students apply for university straight after finishing A-levels, but a gap year can be a good option for those who are unsure, or a great way to gain work experience, travel, take a break, or strengthen an application if things didn’t go as planned. It can also provide extra time to mentally prepare, or to focus on personal projects and interests.
I don't know how often it happens, but often enough. Your application to Cambridge shouldn't be prejudiced by taking a gap year, if that is your concern (as long as you've been doing useful things with your gap year, that is).
