A-level maths - should I sit it end of y12?

Hi, at my school we cover all the content for A-level maths by Easter of y12 and then further maths after that. Technically as I’d have learnt all the content, would it be wise to sit the exam in the summer 2026 sitting? I’m taking 4 A-levels so I’d still be taking 3 subjects (including further maths) at the end of year 13.
Thank you

Look into whether unis you are interested in going to will allow for this. Ask your school if this is possible 🙂

Lots of schools teach it this way - does the school plan for students to sit Maths in Year 12 or is this your idea?

It's common for schools to plan double Maths like this and sit Maths in Y12. There are no issues we have encountered.

its always worth double checking, especially given that the OP hasn’t mentioned what degree subject theyre looking at or where.

Name a uni that doesn't accept this - our students have been accepted into many, including Oxbridge, doing this!

I thought Oxbridge only looks at a levels sat in one year. So if you do maths a level in year12, they don’t look at it. Is that true?

I don't think there's a single uni that will have an issue with this. Cosidering how common it is, this place would be full of complaints of students who did this and then were ineligibile if there were unis rejecting students for this.

No, they do consider the already achieved grade as people are still sitting three in Year 13. Why would schools do this if it was a problem for students?

I’m not sure tho, my teacher told us that Oxbridge only looks at grades achieved in year 13

My school says that they’ll help people prepare etc but I’d have to sit the actual exam outside of school. I’d like to do international business at uni, so I think doing maths early could help take the pressure off? But then I’m not sure if I’ll be ready to take it at the end of y12…
I’m taking geography and econ as well as maths/fm

I would not do this then if you have to pay to sit it somewhere else. You really need to be sure you'll get an A*.

We have people doing both routes .... but in separate groups taught diffferently.
