Economics and data science degree, thoughts ?

I am thinking of doing a economics degree but thinking of combining it with data science.

Is anyone doing a economics and data science degree, and if so which are the good Uni's to do it, doesnt have to be one of the top ones.

Also is data science good to do. I am just thinking of in the future in particular AI, and that AI relies on data and data analytics, and having data science knowledge would be useful.

Hi there,

That’s such a great question, and it’s fantastic that you’re already thinking about combining Data Science with your interest in Economics. It’s honestly one of the smartest combinations for the future. Data is at the heart of everything, from finance and business strategy to government policy and AI, and people who can understand and analyse that data are in incredibly high demand.

At London South Bank University (LSBU), our MSc Data Science is designed exactly for students like you who want to use data to make a real-world impact. The course is hands-on, industry-focused, and gives you practical experience with tools like Python, R, SQL, Tableau, and SAS, the same technologies used in today’s top organisations. It’s mapped to BCS (British Computer Society) professional standards, so you’ll graduate with skills that employers trust. From business analytics and financial modelling to data-driven policy and AI applications, this degree gives you the flexibility to shape your career in whatever direction excites you most.

LSBU’s central London location is a huge advantage too, you’ll be studying right at the heart of the UK’s financial and technology hub. That means access to networking events, internships, and industry connections with companies in sectors like banking, consulting, and digital innovation. Our lecturers are experienced professionals who bring real-world insight into every module, and our career support team works closely with students to help them find placements and graduate roles that match their goals.

If you’re passionate about understanding data, solving problems, and building a career that’s future-proof, the MSc Data Science at LSBU is a brilliant choice. It doesn’t matter whether you come from a computing, business, or economics background, what matters most is your curiosity, determination, and willingness to learn.

I’d really encourage you to come along to our Open Day on Saturday 15th November, where you can meet lecturers, explore the labs, and chat with current postgraduate students about their experience. It’s a great opportunity to see how LSBU can help you take that next big step toward a rewarding career in data, analytics, or AI.

👉 You can sign up here: LSBU Open Day.
👉 You can also chat with our students through our Unibuddy platform: Chat with our students.

So yes, if you’re looking for a course that blends data, innovation, and real-world application, LSBU is definitely the place to be.
