Oxford or Cambridge? I need to send my ucas in a few days!

I've been more interested in the collages than the unis, and found I took a liking to balliol collage in oxford, and Jesus collage in Cambridge, though in oxford I also liked Mansfield and LMH.

For the record, I am at a grammar school and achieved a 7 in eng lang and an 8 in maths. I'm applying to history and got an 8 at gcse. My gcses overall are 9988888776, and I study maths French and history at a level. My teacher is happy to award me A*AA For Cambridge or AAA for oxford depending on what I go for, but he said my gcses are too low for oxford and I'll be instantly rejected even at a smaller collage!
Also how important is the my Cambridge application? I'm worried it will affect my chances if I don't do it!

For reference oxford has removed the admissions test this year and Cambridge doesn't have one

Collages???

Why is your teacher massaging your predicted grades according to where you apply?

Look more at the details of the course. From my understanding, they can be quite different in terms of which papers are mandatory and which are optional. The course should be the biggest decider.

Oxford, look under 'Structure': https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/course-listing/history
Cambridge, look under 'Course outline': https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/history-ba-hons

With regard to the My Cambridge Application, it is mandatory to fill it in but most of it is just information about details you should already have. There is an optional personal statement but it is completely optional and it will not affect your chances either way. It is mostly for courses where the Cambridge course deviates quite significantly from other courses (for example, if you applied to HSPS at Cambridge but just Politics everywhere else, your main UCAS personal statement may talk mostly about Politics, whereas you could use your My Cambridge Application personal statement to talk more about the other subjects within HSPS). For History, it is much less relevant; only if there is something specific you want to discuss about the Cambridge course.

Hey! I think your GCSEs are completely fine - I'd be more worried about applying to Oxford without an A* in History unless you have serious extenuating circumstances. Have a look at the differences between the course structures, the general vibes of the cities (Cambridge is more green), the tutors who match your own interests etc. first.

Don’t worry about the colleges - focus on the courses! They are quite different. You will end up being happy with any college you go to, but you won’t be so happy if you do a course which isn’t right for you.

Jesus College, Cambridge is an excellent choice for History with such an amazing library. 😉

This a spoof, right? You wanna go to Oxford or Cambridge and you can't spell college? And what sort of BS teacher predicts one lot of grades of Oxford and another for Cambridge?

He wants to let us have every opportunity and push us to achieve as much as we can

Definitely odd giving more than one set of predicted grades ! Where did you apply in the end ?

But inflating predictions risks you missing your offer; and potentially an insurance offer too, and then being in a right mess on results day.
