Occupational psychology

Hello everyone,

I’m struggling to pick a university for psychology.

My idea is to do occupational psychology when I’m older but I’m not sure what career path to take.

I would want a university with a good campus, social life and obviously education, my prediced is BBB.

Hi,
I'm currently studying Psychology at the University of Reading, and I genuinely think the BSc Psychology course is great! Before joining, I was quite interested in Forensic Psychology, but I wasn’t entirely sure what career path I wanted to take so I chose the broader Psychology degree that covers a wide range of topics, and I’m so glad I did.
Early on, I took a module in Forensic Psychology and realised it wasn’t quite the right fit for me. But I discovered I really liked Clinical Psychology, and I’ve been able to tailor my studies by choosing optional modules that really interest me. We also had the chance to explore Occupational Psychology not through a dedicated module, but staff members who were Occupational Psychologists.

The campus itself is one of my favourite things about the university. It is very green, with a lovely lake and gardens that make it a great place to relax and study. There’s always something going on socially, with loads of societies that host regular events and socials, so it’s easy to get involved and meet people.

If you have any questions about the course or student life here, I’d be more than happy to help!

Hello @mollyb7878,

I currently study psychology at the University of Southampton. I have found it so fun and easy to tailor my learning to my interests.

The course is very flexible and you have the opportunity to choose modules to study each year on top of the required modules. This is great for if you aren’t sure what career path to take. We are also offered lots of career support, such as careers meetings, career fairs and an optional placement year.

The campus is very green and there are lots of cafes and spaces to study. As well as this, the city is lively with lots of events and opportunities to socialise on and off campus.

The entry requirements are AAA if you aren’t studying a required subject and AAB if you are. You can find out more about this here.

Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi there 😊

We offer BSc Psychology here at the University of Salford, in third year you will choose four modules alongside your dissertation and would be able to choose the Occupational Psychology module if this interested you. I'm personally just about to start my third year studying BSc Psychology and Criminology here at Salford and absolutely love it ☺️

I'm going to link the page here for Careers in Psychology on the British Psychological Society (BPS) website where I really recommend looking at the tab for Occupational Psychology, or any of the rest, as I find it a really great resource for more information and links for exploring this area as a career path.

It's totally okay if you're not quite sure what career path exactly you would like to take at the moment. The psychology degree is designed in a way to cover all the core areas of psychology (biological, cognitive, social, developmental, individual differences, research methods) in accordance with being a BPS accredited degree, and then you have lots of flexibility in your third year to choose from the optional modules and explore what interests you the mosts. I personally have found that the areas I was most interested in at the start of my degree have now changed quite significantly and many areas I didn't expect to enjoy have now become my favourite - the beauty of this degree is there is loads of flexibility and range to find what best suits you, whilst ensuring you have covered everything you need for that base understanding of psychology to build upon. My advice would be to stay openminded and curious and you will find what is right for you 😊

In terms of campus and university life, Salford is a campus uni based right on the edge of Manchester city centre. I find this gives a really great balance of all the benefits of easy campus uni life whilst still also getting the fun and excitement of the city centre right there whenever I want it. There's loads of green spaces on campus too which give it a really peaceful feel, but then if you want to go into Manchester it's only a half hour walk or there's loads of bus/train options straight from campus if you'd prefer. I honestly love the balance it gives and quite often walk into Manchester to grab a coffee or food with friends - or my personal favourite thing is nipping to the cinema after uni as I'm a big film fan!

I really recommend visiting an open day if this interests you, I found this the best way to decide what university was really the right fit for me. You get the chance to speak to lecturers and current students to ask any questions you have, plus you generally can get the feel for being on campus and see if it feels right for you ☺️ the next one is 8th November, linked here for more info.

Happy searching!

@mollyb7878

Some of the best universities in the UK for occupational psychology are University of Cambridge, Loughborough University, University of Strathclyde, King's College London, and Nottingham Trent University.

If you wanted to do a general Psychology degree and wanted a more flexible delivery model, I did my BPS accredited Psychology course at Arden University and had a great time. They have both flexible and 100% online options
