Can I get onto a Medicine Course in university with my current qualifications

I have Maths, Science, and English at grade 5 and above, and I am finishing my Level 3 BTEC in Health and Social Care in 2026. I didnt realise what I wanted to pursue as a career (Medicine- Pathology) and now that I know, I find that every possible course accessible to me (south England) is impossible for me to get on to with current qualifications. I do not have A Levels, and I don't understand why some universities won't accept BTECs (even in relevant subjects). Do I just give up on this career and do something else, or is there really a way?

BTECs are vocational qualifications - they are not of the same academic standard as A levels, whatever your school tries to tell you, and will not cover core sciences in the same depth as A levels.

Look at other healthcare careers - there are hundreds of way of working in the NHS other than Medicine, and many of these roles have far more impact on people's lives than doctors.

Thread moved to the medicine section.

As above, I don't know that any med school accepts BTECs by themselves, they normally need to be taken in combination with at least 1 AL to be considered.

As an example - Bristol now accepts Applied Science BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma, at DDD with Distinctions in five specified Chemistry units for A100 5-year Medicine. Applicants also have to meet a high UCAT threshold.

The BTEC you are taking does not fulfil the hard-science, and specifically the Chemistry, requirements. However frustrating this is to you does not change the reality that you are not going to be able to apply for Med with the qualification that you have taken.
