Ask the UoR ambassadors questions! - UoR LLB Law & International Business Student

Hi everyone!

As the new academic year begins you might be thinking about your next steps and university. We at Reading, have a great team of student ambassadors to support you in your educational journey.

I’m Sid, a first-year LLB Law with International Business student at the University of Reading. I recently switched to this course after completing a foundation year in Business & Management.

So far, I’ve really enjoyed my time at university and have made the most of the opportunities to get involved whether that be through leadership opportunities, focus groups to improve the university for everyone, part time work to support higher education accessibility or joining societies.

Our Law with Business degree is taught across both the School of Law and the Henley Business School, (HBS) which is triple-accredited. My typical week is lectures on two days a week and seminars on three days a week. Im currently learning about or will be this year - criminal law, contract law, tort law, public law 1, business management, marketing & markets and English legal systems.

Our careers team also hold regular fairs and opportunities to get work experience (i.e. Pro Bono, law firm and chamber work experiences) and can help with applications, you can also book a 1-1 career appointment.

(Campus Jobs also offers flexible work around your studies). - I also have a part time ambassador role via our Campus Jobs team.

During my foundation year, I lived in Stenton Townhouses, one of the on-campus accommodation options, comprising of 12 rooms with a shared bathrooms (2 on each floor, 4 rooms) across 3-4 floors are a large downstairs shared kitchen-living room area with a shared garden. I now commute to university via train and bus, so I can share experiences of both living in halls and commuting as well as any financial support such as our bursaries for commuter students or the get togethers we have with the SU.

I'm also the first in my immediate family (parents) to attend university and I come from a state school background. I’ve been supported by the Disability Advisory Service (DAS) here at Reading, which has been really helpful in my academic journey in order to support my learning so that I and others can achieve our best at University.

Outside of my course, I’m currently the Secretary for the Photography Society one of the 100+ societies you can join at Reading!

I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about: Student life, the transition to university life, living in halls or commuting, studying a foundation year, being a first-generation university student, support from DAS, careers, part-time work, societies and getting involved, student finance and funding, the Law with Business course and anything else university related.

I'm available on The Student Room every Thursday, but our ambassador team is online daily to help with general questions such as, SFE, Student Life, Societies, Part time work as well as their own experiences across a variety of courses and the future opportunities (not just law, as Reading offers a wide variety of courses). We can also provide revision tips and application support.

You can also get in touch with me through the university’s official platform, Unibuddy, where I’ve written blogs about my first semester and shared some of my revision tips.

We look forward to your questions!

Kind Regards,
Sid
