Update: 10th November
I have so many tests coming up and homework it's not even funny
I have a Physics test on Energy Stores/Transfers and Resources tomorrow
Biology on Inheritance on Wednesday
Chemistry on Rates of Reaction and Energy Change on Friday
Spanish test on Friday
Sparx maths due wednesday
RS 12 marker on "should women be allowed to become priests in the Christian Church" for Friday
History notes due tomorrow

Also in computing we're pretty near the end of the course so my teacher says he wants to set us a whole paper 1 and then a whole paper 2 so we can see where our weaknesses are... I know it'll help me but I really just can't be bothered

I have a bit of a headache but have too much due tomorrow to take the night off so I think I'll just have to take a paracetamol, grin and bear it

The plan for tonight is:

Use my CGP Physics revision question cards to revise, maybe also do some of the exam questions on save my exams

Do my history notes

Do another little bit of sparx maths (I'm trying to spread it out over the week to make it a bit less painful)

Do Corbett maths 5 a day (I saw some people recommending it so have started doing it as well!)

Make some biology flashcards

Thanks for reading!

Guys I just wrote an update but I can't tell if it actually posted 😭
Anyway the summary of it is I have so much to do and not enough time to do it (story of every y11s life I fear)
Edit: Oh wait it did send I think nvm

hello! i'm jay and i'm in year 12, and can i just say, FIGURE SKATING?? AND HAMILTON?? OMG YAY

you have amazing grades so far congrats!! i'm sure you'll go on to achieve everything you want to. and that computer science rant is very real, i think collectively everyone who does computer science ocr has crashed out one too many times over the subject :c i had the same situation over year 10/11, lmk if you want any help surviving :jive:

have a great rest of your week! can't wait to see your progress <3

Hey @iceskater!! May I ask a question? You're doing so well with your grades, may I ask you your RS structures for 6 markers, 12 markers, 4 markers please? I used to get 9s in RS and now my teacher hates me so grades me down on purpose so I'm trying to secure at least an 8, if you wouldn't mind sharing. If not, I completely understand. But I applaud all your hard work 🙂

Hi jay! Yes I lovvvvvve figure skating and Hamilton. Skatings gonna be my break from revision and I always listen to Hamilton when revising! Do you like skating/hamilton?
Thank you!! Currently I am getting the grades I want for my school's sixth form but I do want to do better than what I need to, so I can prove to myself that I can y'know?
Exactly why does computer science have to be so hard 😭 my teacher also says we're nearly done with the course but I haven't understood like any of it.... and he says we're gonna have an entire paper 2 to do on Tuesday to "identify areas of weakness" which makes sense ig but he told us this on Friday and I have so much other revision to do over this weekend! I might have to take you up on that soon, I have mocks after Christmas and I am NOT prepared

Thank you!!

Hey!
My books at school rn and I'm afraid I don't know the 6 and 4 markers off the top of my head as we don't practice them that much, but I will get back to you when my book's at home.
For my 12 markers I normally do introduction, paragraph for, paragraph against, and conclusion. I assume 12 markers would be marked pretty similarly even if you're doing a different exam board? Also just to warn you, I'm pretty sure my teacher just reads my introduction or first paragraph and skips the rest, so maybe check with your teacher as well? Or maybe another teacher in the department if your teacher hates you? At least in the actual GCSE you won't have anyone purposely grading you down on purpose 😀
Introduction- I briefly define the thing in the question (eg if it was pilgrimage I would say pilgrimage, a journey made for religious purposes, ...). Then I briefly introduce both sides of the argument (eg if the question was "pilgrimage is a waste of time and money- Discuss" I would say something like many christians embark on pilgrimages in order to feel closer to God and to connect with fellow Christians. However, some sceptics believe that pilgrimage is a waste of time and money).
P1- State the point (pilgrimage is a great way for many Christians to connect with God, other Christians, and their faith). And then if we go along with the pilgrimage example I would say why pilgrimage helps them to feel closer to God, and then why they feel closer to other Christians (so in general just explain your point in more detail). I then put in (if it's the Christianity topic) a bible quote, briefly explain why the quote supports the argument put forward in the point. I then give an example of eg a famous pilgrimage (although I often skip this out depending on the question). I then say "therefore.." and repeat my point (idk if this is necessary in rs but history has trained me to do this).
P2- Basically just repeat p1 but with opposing viewpoint
Conclusion- "In conclusion, having weighed up both sides of the argument it is clear to see that while many [Christians/Muslims etc] believe y, x is the more persuasive argument because of z (and then I just repeat some of the points made in my paragraph)

Wow this is really long hope this helps though!!

Update: 15th November
I think my Physics test went pretty well, there was one calculation question that I got stuck on with like 2 minutes left and I know I got it wrong but I was only like 2 marks and I think I did pretty well on the 6 marker? I'm still getting 7s and some 6s in Physics but I think maybe I might get an 8 in this test??? It was an easy test though so I'm worried the grade boundaries will be super high.
Biology also went okay, there was a weird question about fruit flies that I was so confused about, but oh well. Biology is my best science but I've never ever gotten a 9 in it, always straight 8s (which I am very happy with, especially as I'm not going to continue sciences onto a level), but maybe I might get a 9 in this??
I sacrificed all my chemistry revision time to biology and physics as they were sooner in the week, which wasn't that smart as chemistry did not go well. The test wasn't too bad, and I roughly knew what all the questions were, but I know I was nowhere near specific enough in my answers. Also some questions I thought I had 100% got right I now know I got wrong as I checked my notes after the test was done 😭 so whilst I was doing the test I was predicting myself a 6 but once I realised I had got some of my definite marks wrong, I honestly think I might get a 5, which would be the worst I have ever done in a test since year 8.
Spanish test went fine, I know I'll get a 9 unless I didn't pick up on some major mistake (that sounds so full of myself sorry Spanish is just my subject that I know I'll ace 😭)

My plan for today:
It's my Nana's birthday this weekend so we're heading over to her house later, I was gonna do some homework this morning but I literally just got an email saying my application for a season pass has been accepted (basically there is an ice rink that comes to where I live only in the winter, and I applied for a season pass there as the nearest full-time ice rink that I normally go to is pretty far away) so I'll probably go skating this morning instead 🥳 that does mean I'll need to take some homework to my grandparents tho....

I have sparx maths due wednesday
Revision for comp sci paper 2 on tuesday
Questions on act 4 scene 1 of a midsummer nights dream due monday
History notes due monday

So I'll probably go skating this morning, then go to my grandparents, try get my history homework done at some point today, try cram my English tomorrow, and then I'll just have to accept my inevitable 4 in comp sci (as long as I still pass 🤞), I'll take my CGP flashcards to my grandparents but I probably won't have much time to do anything.

Thanks for reading!!

HELLO!! sorry i took so long to reply i've been crashing out over physics :frown:
i adore hamilton, it's amazing to listen to while studying but i get distracted lol. i cannot skate for the life of me but figure skating is just so cool i adore the fact you do it :groovy:

oh my god nooo :frown: i wish you the best of luck in the paper 2!! at this point, focus on what you actually need to do, for example the revision that you've planned. i procrastinated computer science for the entire 2 years, never did any proper revision, complained about it 24/7, and still got a 7, 1 mark from an 8. it's your time, and if that paper 2 wasn't a mock, i wouldn't worry about it.

ofc!! i'd be happy to help, i have mocks after winter break too so we can struggle together :five: don't stress!! i believe in you <3

have a great day!

Dw, crashing out over physics is so real lol
Yes I love it but I do get distracted 😭
Thank you, I actually did better than expected- I got a low 7, but we also did a paper 1 last lesson, and I calculated that if I got everything I answered correct, I would get 55%!!! So have accepted the inevitable for that one, tbf to me he did only give us like 2 days notice again, and at least we're marking them ourselves so it's just like if I did a past paper at home.

Good luck for your mocks!! I'm sure you'll ace them!
Thank you, you too!

Update: 2nd December
I know its been like 2 weeks since I have done an update oops...
I've been doing lighting for my school play (opening night tomorrow- eek!) which has been taking over a lot of my time, I had an all day rehearsal on Sunday but I wasn't needed for most of it so I tried to do my homework but the lighting booth was so dark and I couldn't even read my script for my cues let alone do my biology 😭. I am ill today so stayed home (really don't want to give it to the actors as we are doing a musical so that would be awful) but didn't get that much done as I slept in til 11:30 lol. I'm debating not going in tomorrow either and just turning up for the play but I have my physics test and model UN so I don't want to miss it (I also missed yesterday due to the dress rehearsal so I don't want to fall farther behind, but I do want a lie in).

I have so much homework to do, I don't understand why the teachers can't just teach it all in the lesson 😭 btw I leave all the books I don't need for homework in my locker overnight but sometimes I forget I got hw in that lesson or the teacher surprises us with it so I don't have my books with me to do my homework which is what happened with lots of these hws
⬜️ Biology sheet on selective breeding: due yesterday (I had a dress rehearsal yesterday so I was off timetable and was busy on the weekend)
⬜️ History noting on the battle of huai-hai in China: also due yesterday
⬜️ Spanish worksheet about the environment: due yesterday but I did most of it on Friday
Sparx maths: due tomorrow
⬜️ Physics revision for a test on Magnetism and Electromagnetism (I have done lots of revision but feel like I can't tick it off cos you can always do more revision): tomorrow
⬜️ Spanish listening past paper: due Friday
⬜️ RS 12 marker on whether same sex relationships are compatible with Christianity: due after winter holidays
⬜️ Another RS 12 marker on whether a woman's place is in the home: due after winter holidays

Tests done/to do

Thank you for reading! Sorry it's always sooooo long

Update: 2nd December (part 2)
Btw I forgot to say in my previous post but I also got a history 6 marker back that I got 6/6 on
Just remembered I forgot to say about my mock timetable! I got it last week 😭
This makes it actually feel real nowwwww
I'm actually dreading mocks I feel sick just thinking about them, I'm not sure whether to treat them as super super serious and try to revise almost the entire course for most of my subjects really well and then just do past papers and flashcards from mocks to the actual thing, or to keep revising at a steady pace trying not to burn out, just revising the core things before mocks and then feeling a lot more relaxed over the xmas holidays but then having more to do later on?? Idk right now I'm alternating between "oh shoot I have mocks soon I feel sick I need to revise 24/7" and "I have like half a year til GCSEs, mocks are chill, I can just do a little bit of revision each day and I'll be ready for the actual thing even if I'm not ready for mocks"
The thing is I do need good mocks results to get into my sixth form, and panic will stop procrastination, but I know I'll burn out after mocksssss
Anyway sorry that was such a long rant, all my posts are so long lol, I need to post more often so they can be shorter, altho I am trying to treat this GYG as like a diary for me to ramble loads to myself with lovely people supporting me as well

hey, you got this! my mocks just started yesterday and i'm feeling kinda overwhelmed with everything happening and how little revision i've done, even though i have already done a not too bad amount. don't stress too much, i know you can get good grades for the mocks, but even if you don't get the grades you're hoping foe this set of mocks, just know that the circumstances are so different to the real gcses that (in my delusional head at least) they'll be a breeze compared to mocks (ik thats prolly not true just let me believe it!). that being said, i'd say to try and revise at least a bit for these mocks just so you know you can already do it for the real thing! good luck xxx

Update: 14th December
I officially broke up from school halfway through Friday, I then spent the afternoon skating with friends and then I had a skating lesson so didn't do any revision. Yesterday my sister had a show on so I went to watch her in that, and then we also bought our Christmas tree and decorated it so I didn't do any revision yesterday either (not the best start to my Christmas holiday revision). I was also ill for like a week so missed loads of revision at school and I tried to do some at home but I either solidly revised for hours and then felt ill and had to do wayyy less the next day, or took too many breaks and ended up not revising much.
The plan for today:
Work on the Las Vacaciones section of theme A for my Spanish speaking questions (there are 5 themes in total, each with an average of 3 sections, although I'm doing my photo task on theme B so I don't need to do so much on that), my plan is to do one section each day and then learn them at the same time- my actual speaking exam is on the 24th of March which is really scary
Do a maths past paper (I think it's the June 2024 one?)
Either go swimming or go skating
Clean out my rabbits
Give my room a tidy

Thanks for reading!

Update: 15th December
What I actually did yesterday:
Finished working on my Spanish photo, did about a third of section 1 of my Las Vacaciones questions, so not as much as I had wanted, but at least I got my photo task prepared.
I did not do my maths past paper
I did not go swimming or skating
I spent most of the day deep cleaning the rabbit hutch and it was supposed to take 20 minutes 😭
I did not give my room a tidy
I did however do some RS revision and some computing revision!

The plan for today:
10:30-11:30 Make computing flashcards, general computing revision
11:45-12:45 Maybe some history revision? There's so much content in history it's not even funny
LUNCH
2:00-4:00 maths past paper
And then I've got plans with friends so getting ready and early dinner after that
I also want to try to squeeze some more Spanish speaking in there somewhere but I don't want to work too hard or I'll burn out but I also want to feel prepared.....

Thanks for reading!

Update: 7th January
Wow I did not update this at all over the holidays lol. Too busy locking in for mockssss
Im actually so cooked I have my first mock in 5 days and I am NOT prepared AT ALL. I know mocks don't really matter, but I still want to get good grades. I feel like I've done so much revision over christmas and since the start of y11 but somehow im not prepared at all?? I think I've spent too long making revision materials like flashcards etc. but at least I'll get to use them for the actual GCSEs!
How revisions going so far:
Maths I did like one past paper and I got a 5 in it. A 5. For reference I'm currently predicted a 9. I think that what went wrong was probably that I've been super chill with maths and haven't actually like looked over my notes or anything, especially circle theorems omg I hate them so muchhhhh. English I'm stressing about, I need to finish rereading To Kill A Mockingbird asap. Sciences I'm actually feeling ok about??? In Spanish there are so many speaking questions to prepare so I think I might just have to let my speaking take a hit and trust the other components to bring the scores up. Computing I'm screwed for but I've accepted that, history we don't have all the topics in our mocks but of course I didn't know that and revised all the wrong ones. For RS I haven't done any proper revision but I'm just about to do an ethics past paper (currently procrastinating lol).
Thanks for reading!

Update: 7th January Part 2
Last night I was actually really productive and finished off a Physics past paper I started in class (got 75% on it which for me in physics is really good), did 30 mins of a biology question booklet, and did some of the dreaded Spanish speaking. I was also meant to do some history revision but I left my textbook at school so I did that tonight instead.
The plan for tonight:
RS ethics past paper (1hr 45)
Spanish Speaking (30mins)
Start a maths past paper (as long as I can be bothered).

Also is anyone else excited for the Traitors episode tonight? I think the secret traitor might be Ellie but my family think Jade.

The plan from tomorrow til mocks (very long and pretty detailed)

Thanks for reading!
