Studying medicine 2026

My son scored 1900 UCAT, GCSE 999988887 and 42 points IB grade.
Please which university can he apply to for a high interview and admission chance?

At the moment he is considering Leicester, Cardiff Exeter and Keele.

Please are these good choices or risky choices?

Thank you.

Hi,

Final year medical student at Leicester here. It looks like your son has excellent grades, so very well done to him. I would recommend having a look at the entry requirements web page for Leicester, which has a link to a document that explains exactly how applicants are scored in order to decide who is invited to interview. Scoring is based 50% on GCSE grades and 50% on UCAT. If you haven't already, I would have a look at the UCAT 2025 test statistics to see which decile your son is in. Otherwise, I recommend having a look at the Medical Schools Council website which has detailed information about the entry requirements for every medical school.

Please feel free to message if you have any questions about medicine at Leicester!

Hi,

Lots of people use The Medic Portal. You can also have a look at the General Medical Schools Council interview tips. I used a book called 'Medical School Interviews' which helped, but the most useful thing was doing mock interviews with friends, family and teachers. Even if these people didn't know exactly what would come up in medical school interviews, just having the practice of being put on the spot and speaking to someone was very helpful. There will be lots of courses available that will charge a lot of money for interview prep, but in my opinion these are not necessary.

One top tip is to make sure he has a look at the NHS core values and can talk about how he demonstrates these.
