Honestly, If your entire PS is on a completely different subject I don’t think unis would appreciate it
If you made the entire thing about the economic part of human geography then you might pull it off but when the sources are so distinct the question I'm usually left asking is... do you want to study geography or PPE?

Hi,

Geography and PPE overlap quite abit (political geography, economic development etc.). Admission tutors may understand the crossover if you frame it as an interest in how geography connects to politics and economics. Also, talk to your teachers/ personal statement support for advice on how to navigate tailoring personal statements to both topics or if they would recommend it.

i actually find both courses interesting but lean towards geog however PPE might be more employable

I would suggest trying to include both in your personal statement if possible and maybe link them a bit if you can, this is what i did for my personal statement when i was applying for various subjects that were quite different from each other

I was applying for courses around geography, environmental science and outdoor studies but also criminology and forensics, and at the time of writing my personal statement I was also considering a policing degree. And for some background I studied Geography, Criminology, and Law at A-level and did an EPQ on the prison system

Hi @johndoedavis
PPE and geography have quite different focuses, your PS might not align perfectly with what PPE admissions tutors are looking for. I would advise making sure your PS is as broad as possible highlighting themes that overlap both geography and PPE, like politics, economics, human behavior or global development.

And what made you realise you wanted to do that rather than criminology or forensics?

I'm not 100% sure about this but a few of my friends who were applying to Dhuram said they let you submit a separate personal statement for them if you are applying to a different degree - so maybe research this and consider them as well.

To be honest was mostly the realisation that I wouldn't cope with being sat in a classroom and learning as well as class sizes as i struggled enough with these things at GCSE and A-Leven so chose the course due to the range of topics covered and also due to the practical and fieldwork element (yes there are still plenty of lectures but there is also lots of practical and fieldwork, typically at least once a week, sometimes more). I also decided that i should try to do something i will hopefully enjoy more and realised that i can still go down the criminology route later in life if i wish to

That's so interesting - sounds as if you're really enjoying your course though - good for you!
So in the end, in your case, was there value in adding some criminology/forensics choices onto your application? :beard:

Yep, lots of unis do - but crucially they don't have to. Some unis may do this for certain courses and not for others - it's a little bit patchy.
