dental hygiene LSBU

has anyone done their first year in LSBU for dental hygiene? people say LSBU is not a good university and plus when you graduate, do clinics care which university you went to or as long as you are registered to GDC?

Hey there,

It is completely understandable to have those questions starting a dental hygiene degree is a big decision! While I’m not a dental student myself, I can share what it’s like from what our current Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy students at LSBU say.

Students who’ve completed their first year describe it as very hands-on from the start. You spend time in our clinical simulation labs at Southwark Campus and get early experience working with real patients under supervision at partner NHS dental clinics. The teaching team is supportive and focused on preparing you for professional registration with the General Dental Council (GDC), which is what truly matters for employment once you graduate.

When it comes to job prospects, most dental practices and clinics care about your GDC registration and your skills, professionalism, and experience rather than the specific university you attended. LSBU’s course is fully accredited by the GDC, meaning graduates are eligible to register and work as qualified dental hygienists or therapists in the UK.
As for LSBU itself it’s a very diverse and community-focused university with great support for healthcare students. You’ll find people here genuinely want to help you succeed, whether that’s through placements, mentoring, or wellbeing support.

You can also chat with our current students on Unibuddy if you’d like to ask about their experiences or what studying at LSBU is really like https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/student-life/chat

I’d really encourage you to join us at our Open Day https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/open-days on the 15th November as you’ll be able to chat with our lecturers, current students, and admissions team to get a real feel for the course and career path.
