Hi there!
Writing personal statements are a challenge so I can understand that some people may try to utilise generative AI to help write it, but I would strongly discourage this. According to the UCAS guidelines, using these tools may harm your chances of getting an offer. Many university courses run AI checks on every submission to ensure students don't cheat by having a program write it for them.

Personal statements are your opportunity to showcase your passion and skills for the course and for the university to decide if they would like to offer you a place. Many students spend months compiling their thoughts and structuring their sentences in a way to make it inviting to the admissions team, so to use AI to write it for you isn't really fair on the other students. Writing this statement is also really good practise for you to explore your strengths and interests and improve your professional writing, which is a key skill you will use during your time at university.

In summary, I would say don't use AI in your personal statement and you won't have to worry about the checker.

Don’t use any.

If you wrote it yourself, you already know it’s authentic and have an audit trail of drafts if it were to be challenged.

If you used AI then it’s not going to tell you whether UCAS’s checker will flag it.

I wouldn’t recommend using AI checkers, as they aren’t part of the UCAS process and can sometimes give false positives. The most important thing is that your personal statement is your own work, written in your own words, and reflects your experiences and ideas. If it does, you’re already on the right track.

AI checkers can be unreliable, often flagging human writing as AI. Please don't stress and spend valuable time running work through AI detectors. Just make sure it's your own work and not copied from elsewhere.
