How to prepare for dentistry interviews?

Basically what the title says - I have no idea where to start! I'm hoping to apply to Glasgow and Dundee.

Hi
First, use the medical portal and their only course in December on mock interviews. They have many slots for medicine, BUT only one for dentistry, so do not miss it and book a place ASAP. My two children, one medical and the other did these courses and gave them good insight about interviews. Secondly use the online resources and medify medentry and YouTube from former applicants. You must be able to answer why dentistry and why their dental schools . Any developments in the world of dentistry. Any publish work by the dental school you applied to. Any hot topic in relation to NHS .

Hi there,

It's great you're looking to study dentistry! Although I didn't study dentistry I can offer you a few general tips for university interviews.

Interviews can be nerve-wracking and not many people enjoy them, however they're just to there to assess your suitability for the course and your knowledge. MMI (Multiple Mini Interviews) that will include topics like ethics, professionalism, team working and communication skills, and knowledge of dentistry. A couple of things they will be looking for:

Your ability to communicate: These skills are essential to the practice of almost all parts of Dentistry. They want to see you will be able to express things clearly and give well thought out answers to spontaneous questions.

Why you want to be a dentist: This is where they will be really looking for your passion and drive to work in the dentistry field. They will be looking for evidence to back up your reasoning, instead of just generic rehearsed answers.

Past experience: Any previous work experience will really appeal to the panel, this doesn't have to be specific dental experience, just anything that has given you valuable transferrable skills. This is a good chance to talk about the facts of the experience and what you have gained from this.

You should just be yourself, speak naturally and don't feel like you need to be too formal or over rehearsed. Have a number of pointers in your head but I wouldn't focus on memorising any answers. Ultimately, just be yourself - focus on showing your passion and knowledge for the subject and everything else will come naturally.

Hope this helps and best of luck!
