how long for ucas to process an application?

hiii, my college sent my ucas application off to ucas on friday afternoon and i was wondering how long it takes for ucas to process it and send it off to my universities since all my friends have had theirs processed already, google says 48 hours but it’s been 48 hours by now so i was a little confused…

Once they receive it, UCAS will check your application for fraud etc, and then send it as a data file to your Unis usually on the following working day. Unis may not download this file immediately - and certainly not at weekends - and they may not actually look at your individual application in any detail for weeks. You might get some acknowledgement emails from Unis by Tuesday or Wednesday - literally 'thank you for applying' - but the '48 hours' suggestion is a bit misleading.

ohhh i see thank you!! for some reason I thought i would get some email from ucas being like ‘okay we’ve checked it all over and now it’s with your unis’ 😭😭 but this seems to make more sense since i did get an email from them on friday confirming my uni choices and them saying that they’ve got my application

if you have received a welcome email from UCAS the colleges have your application. however I have just found out that they can sit at a university central place before they go to the admissions/selectors. It's quite confusing and tbh I think ucas could do a better job of explaining the process. my daughter appealed a grade and it came good - she had to update ucas and inform the unis separately.

one reply below (even although they can see her application I dont think they can process it until the data file is sent from within the Uni).

'Thank you for your email.

We receive the data file of applications for 2025-26 at some point from mid-October, though we do not have a specific date when we will receive this from UCAS. This date is different for each institution was the data is sent in batches'.
