resit or foundation year?

Im in year 13, and i want to study computer science bsc. im predicted ABB for a levels, but i got a 5 in gcse maths . My firm is royal holloway. Im unsure what I should do : resit gcse maths, or study computer science with a foundation year through clearing. What is more worth it? advice asap.

Honestly, I have done a resit for A-level and it didn't quite work out for me. But luckily, I am about to start my foundation year, i would suggest thinking through what is best for you and your plans, but a foundation year is not a bad idea compared to resitting, unless you know you're going to somehow do things Very differently.

Resitting the GCSE would be much cheaper. Have you submitted your application already?

As above - resit GCSE Maths - but also think carefully about the reality of a 3 or 4 years degree where Maths is an essential element. If you struggle with Maths is this actually the best choice?

If you go down the resit maths GCSE route (which I would recommend) then make sure you add GCSE maths as a qualification that you're going to sit, with a predicted grade of "pending".

currently applying for 2026, as i am in year 13. I was thinking i sit my a levels this summer, and then take a gap year, resit gcse maths in november 2026 and go to university for the 2027 entry.

You can do that. If you feel you'd be able to academically stretch yourself, you could also just sit it in summer 2026 with the A'levels and then save yourself a year
